Easton Updates
Easton - St. Jude, August 2008
Easton is a 5-year-old little boy undergoing treatment for choroid plexus carcinoma, a rare, malignant brain tumor, at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He was diagnosed on January 9, 2004, and had his first surgery January 12. After a four-week recovery, he began treatment at St. Jude in February: 10 weeks of chemo, a second surgery, 10 more weeks of chemo, and six weeks of conformal radiation. He completed a second 20 weeks of "maintenance" chemo in February 2005.

I'm updating under duress, as my husband would like me to remind everyone that Team Easton 2008 is once again raising money for St. Jude. Go to the link below for more information.
Things here are good - crazy as they always are in the fall, managing three football seasons (UF, UCF and Lake Brantley Pop Warner - Jaimie cheers). The kids have settled into the school routine and are having fun.
Easton continues with all of his therapies. We just received a new AFO (leg brace) - one he was fitted for when we at St. Jude in August - so we will get that adjusted for him and see how it goes. He had been wearing a transderm (motion sickness) patch for a while on the recommendation of his neurologist, because it helped to control his drooling (which is a result of his right-side weakness). It was working great - but unfortunately E's skin started to have allergic (?) reactions to the patch, so we had to discontinue it. So it's back to working on oral/motor exercises to strengthen those muscles around his mouth.
Easton is once again taking a class at our local Little Gym, this time with his cousin Taggart, which makes it even more fun. He has a great time and it's great for developing his physical skills. Jaimie is wrapping up cheerleading this month and will begin her first-ever foray into basketball. Gotta' try a little of everything right? Hopefully I will talk Gary into letting Easton do a sport in the Spring.
My only other comment on Easton is that he is insanely brave, emphasis on the insane. He doesn't know that he is technically epileptic, or that his right side is not especially strong, all he knows is that if there is something dangerous to do, he wants to try it. Yesterday I glanced into the back yard and discovered him precariously perched on the roof of his playset...more than 10 feet off the ground. He had no idea how to get down, but still thought my freaking out was silly (meanwhile I'm having panic attack). He is all boy.
Thanks for continuing to check in, and for your prayers.
