Hi Kara,
There aren't many days that go by that I don't think of Delaney. I could make a long list of countless reasons, but the one I'll pick tonight is the one about pennies. When ever I pick up pennies or loose change from the floor of my car or where ever, Delaney is the first face I see in my mind. I remember her Uncle sharing that about her. Liem picked out Delaney's picture at clinic on Monday. just as he's always done...even before we met her.

Delaney is missed, but I feel so BLESSED to have known her.
with love,
Annike

I saw Delaney on many occasions at the school where she once attended. She was always wearing her hat, protecting her precious angelic face from the sun, waiting patiently for her mommy to pick her up after school. Much to my own loss I never talked to her, I would only smile. When I learned of her passing away, I felt as if I had known her. A sudden sadness swept over me. I have listened to other teachers' talk about her. She touched a lot of hearts and caused a lot of smiles. Delaney is terribly missed.

Hi Kara,
It was great to see you at the kite camp dinner. Your cake was soooo yummy. I also felt so sad because I was expecting to see Delaney.I think I felt your sadness too. I have places in my heart for Delaney and the other precious little ones that are no longer with us, and it hurts. I still cry for my mom and she has been gone for almost 4 years. I hope to get another opportunity to see you soon.

I never met you, but I had the privilege of coloring with Delaney one Thursday night at CCC. She kept the conversation going with her stories and I enjoyed every minute with her. She was talking about not being able to find shoes because the store had every size except hers. Everyone grieves in their own way and it’s important that you do things at your own pace. When I lost my husband a few years ago, I found that keeping busy helped me get through – even if it was gardening or something around the house. There are no rules as to when things are to get done. Delaney will always be with you and may the wonderful memories you have of her ease some of the sadness in your heart. It’s hard to understand this now, but you will eventually not be so sad and you will learn to adapt to your changed life. Keep a small album of pictures of her smiling and having fun nearby and look at it occasionally…it will bring a smile to your face. My thoughts and prayers are with you….

Who says you have to quit posting? If you want to, go for it. Heather still updates posts, not as frequently, but she does maybe twice a month. But go with a different blog or something, get off caringbridge if you think you're past that. You may still have great things to say and share!

The time will come when you're ready. I've talked to other families, much farther down the road than you and they still have things they are unable to go through. Don't put any pressure on yourself...unless you were planning to extend that into a bowling alley or something. ;)

The calls are getting less for me to but at the same time I am just so shut down. I miss Sierra desperately and just long to hold her. Delaney and Sierra are such unique and amazing little girls. I loved talking to Delaney and she would just keep me laughing with her cute ways. I am so glad they are together. It's sad that they have a lot of friends in Heaven with them, well sad for us but good for them. Kara, I have been planning to call you (my extreme sadness gets in the way) and I will. Maybe today. I think of you a lot, all of you.

Driving to work the other morning I saw a beautiful rainbow over the bay. That day one of the kids saw my prayer necklace, just like the one we put Delaney's name in, and asked me if Delaney was in heaven. We had a nice talk about all the things that she was doing up there; running, singing, and most of all telling her funny stories. I am so glad that your family got to go to Cades Cove. I go there every summer and never feel closer to God than I do in those mountains. Please know that your little girl will remain in our hearts and minds forever.

I just wanted to stop by and let you know that I think of all of you very often. Sam mentions Delaney alot. She was talking about the BackYardagans yesterday (sp) and how much Delaney likes that show...I've never heard that one before and am not sure how true it is? Anyway, she was talking about when she saw Delaney last and how funny her cat story was...I just wanted you to know that. Delaney touched many lives and we will always remember her. Delaney touched so many lives in such a positive way in the short time that she was with us...she was truly an angel here on earth.....please know how much she was loved by all who had the privilege to know her.....and she will be remembered....I will miss her bright smile, her shining eyes, and most of all I will miss her wonderful sense of humor.....no one could tell a funny story like Delaney....I can see her now up in heaven making all the angels laugh with stories of her cat climbing the curtains and "falling on his butt"......the stars will shine a little brighter tonight......your family is in my heart and in my prayers....

Kara, Brian and girls

You all were on my heart all night, just hurting for you. I felt like it was so YOU to comfort me while we talked, and maybe you didn't mean to, but I did feel comforted to know how strong your faith is. Delaney was so happy, she was so joyful and she spread that love around every chance she got. I know your family is tight and that you will band together stronger than ever through this.

I just hate that your lives are now incomplete, but I know that you believe you will reunite with Delaney in heaven. I wish that was complete comfort from the pain of losing her here.

Your family is so loved, Delaney's life may not have had quantity of years, but it sure as heck had a lot of quality.

You know that love and whatever else you might need is only a call away.

My heart aches for you all. What a privilege and inspiration you all have been to me. When I would have nursery duty and Delaney would come with her bright smile and being so prim and proper with her purse, it would make my day. She has touched so many hearts as well as your whole family has. God knows the future and we don't, I feel that He loved her so much that He called her home to have no more pain and is now enjoying her beautiful smile as we all will again when we see her in Heaven. Just know that you have been a beautiful testimony to everyone by the way you handled Delaney and her sicknes. You have kept the faith and allowed us the privilege of being in her and your lives. What a testimony!! We love you and are praying for strength for all the family in these hard days ahead. We are just a phone call away, at any time.

Dear Kara and family,
I am so sorry. I heard of all of the joyfullness Delaney was spreading around the CCC on Thursday night, being her most precious and ever popular little sweetie pie self. And I felt cheated that I did not get to see her that one last time. But then I remind myself that I was blessed to even get to know Delaney, and be around her all of the other times she was being Delaney, a sweet to the core little peanut that we all loved so much. I will miss her so much, I already do. This really hurts my heart and soul, and I pray that your family heals together with God's grace helping you.

Bryan, Kara, Viven and Elizabeth,

I just wanted to say how terribly sorry we are for the loss in your life. I know that Delaney has made a lasting impression in all of your lives and touched your heart in ways know one will ever understand. She has brought you all closer as a family. She has taught you patience beyond belief. The ability to love someone for every moment you have with them and to cherish that fact.

My friend gave 2 braclets that I wear and read daily:
Each Day is a gift from God!!! Delaney was your gift.
Love is patient love is kind!!! Your family is a testament to this fact.

I too read these words several times a day to remind myself of these saying and know that life is all about the "TODAYS".

Bryan and Kara I am closing with the fact that I know you were blessed with a beautiful determined daughter!!

Elizabeth and Vivian, you were blessed to have a wonderful sister who showed you unconditional love and the ability to show you that life is all about the big stuff and not to sweat the small things.

She will always be a part of you!!!

Kara,

Can I tell you what I adore about you? Only you can say "ALL we have now are this multitude of side effects to deal with" and mean it just that way. You know that Delaney's continued improvement is the most important thing in the face of where she's been and what she's overcome.

SOOO excited that the CCC is having a Valentine's party otherwise you'd have one mighty ticked off little girl on your hands. Might have been fun to watch you scramble around figuring out how to crisis manage THAT one!

Dear Baum's

I have a hard time believing that just a few months ago Delaney's laying in the hospital with the most dire of possible outcomes, and now she is her fiesty self again. She never fails to crack me up with her sarcasm and overly-mature wisdom, and her sweetness just makes me love her more every day.

Yeah, the rest of you are pretty darn cool too. I'm so glad to read positives in every regard of her treatment, and we'll be praying hard for positive scan results.

I hope you guys have an AWESOME Christmas, I miss seeing you over the holiday break, what a mess am I going to be when we move?? Arrrgggg

I love talking to Delaney. For me she is the perfect example of a miracle. To see how far she has come is so awesome and I stand in awe of her. There has been so much heartache in our little world with all the relapses and kids getting sick that watching Delaney gives me hope. I know she still has a long road ahead of her but what a fighter you have.

We love you all!

Your girl has the most amazing sense of humor EVER!! And that kid has perfected the "duh, are you stupid?" tone...I wonder where she gets that from?? Oh, she was cracking me up.

I hope this week's grocery list of dr visits go smoothly and with as little hair pulling and teeth gritting as possible. I hope Delaney gets to pull her sarcastic routine on at least 15 people a day...I mean, if a kid with cancer can't get smartass on people, who can??

It was wonderful to see you last night, and I am already looking forward to Thursday. I'm going to sit with you at dinner because you might order something better than what I get.

Love you!

Hi Kara,
I asked Anissa if you were hooked up with Lighthouse and I was happy to hear that you are. We are hooked up with Lighthouse since early on, too. I was wondering if you know about the upcoming camp Achievement put on by Division of Blind Services (Lake Wales)? It's next weekend and I don't know how you feel about being gone from home right now, but it might be worth looking into. Our family is planning on going and I was hoping that we might see you there. Perhaps you could ask the people who run the program at Lighthouse. Also, I have the phone number to a contact at DBS whose in charge of organizing it.

I hope this is helpful to you. It seems like a good opportunity.

Take care, always in our prayers,

Keep the good news coming, it's awesome to hear that Delaney's up and becoming more active.

My heart just hurts to know what's happened to her vision, but what good planning to have her prepared with Braille. It just makes me angry that she even has to use it. I don't know what your schedule is, but I hope you are able to make it to group one day soon.

Just lots of prayers. That's all I got, girl.

Valerie had DI problems (with seizures) in the hospital too. We finally used pretzels to get her sodium up (Craig calculated that the pretzels had much more sodium than the bag of sodium fluids they were giving her).
She has been on ddavp since her sodium went back up a week after the first surgery (back in 2/05) and has never had problems since that initial phase of DI.
Praying that Delaney's levels get straightened out quickly - for us it was a difficult time. Hope you all can come home soon. Once we were out of the hospital, things improved quickly (Valerie was given 60 times the dose of desmopressin in the hospital which made her sodium drop so low).

Hi Delaney and family,
I know you from the OG yahoo group. I hadn't heard anything after you guys went to radiation and was very surprised when I read about what was going on with Delaney through Peyton's website. I'm so sorry to hear about how her tumor responded to the radiation. Since learning about Delaney I'm constantly praying and thinking about you guys. I also asked the ladies in my bible study to pray for her. It breaks my heart, so I can't even imagine what your family is going through.

You're in my prayers daily. I will be praying about the upcoming MRI.

So...that cigarette lighter were going to send in a care package would be a bad thing?

You're so loved and prayed for, Delaney is always in our thoughts. I'm glad you're home and that hospice is making life a little easier on you. I just saw the wheelchair they got for Hannah and it is the mack-daddy-mercedes of all wheelchairs, so I hope they hook you up!

I know your fears of what lies ahead must be so overwhelming, but you know that you have a lot of friends just waiting to hear if we can help in some way. Please reach out if you need anything, you know we're all here for you. I don't know when Delaney will be up for coming to CCC again, but I'll be looking forward to the time that I get to see you again.

Delaney,

I am so glad to hear that things are going well for you in Jacksonville. We were talking about your family at the Lil Tales meeting on Tuesday, thinking of you and hoping it continues to be a positive experience.

We haven't known many movie starts, so we're thrilled you're going to be one of our first!

Let your mom know that you're all in our prayers daily.

Also, Kara, if you could email me your favorite picture of Delaney I would like to use it to make a magazine cover that we're going to be using to decorate our Relay for Life tent. We're using the CHILD magazine as our theme, so I'm making covers for all the cancer kids I can and I would love to have Delaney's beautiful face up there side by side with all those other courageous little ones. Check out Peyton's site, there's a link to the "Relay Magazine covers" for examples of the kids that I've already completed.

We're sending love and prayers your way!

Hello Delaney and family! I live in Jacksonville and just came across your site. It's nice to "meet" you. What a pretty girl you are and so brave! I hope that you like Jacksonville and I will pray that your treatment here works and makes you well again. My 6-year old daughter, Audrey Kate, has leukemia and has been on treatment for almost 2 1/2 years. Who is your oncologist here in Jax? Audrey Kate's is mainly Dr. Pitel although she sees them all and they are all so wonderful. I am on the board of the Child Cancer Fund which helps with financial needs of cancer patients in N. FL. I'm not really sure how the process works or if y'all would qualify, being from Tampa, but if you're interested in finding out more you can check the website at www.ccf.org. Or email me and I will find out for you. I have heard about the proton therapy and am glad that Delaney is getting to receive it. Again, I pray that it works! May God give you strength and comfort!
