Hi, Collin. I see I'm not the only one from The Squirrel Board. My wife used to do charity trail rides for St. Jude's in Denver. We think they're a pretty good outfit.

Hi Shannon, Collin and Jay,

Wow!!! you sure have had a busy summer. I am sorry about your Grandfather Passing. I am so happy for Collins great check up. I never get tired of hearing news like that. For some reason I thought you all lived up north, not sunny Florida. We live just south of Mobile Alabama. what part of Florida are you in? You will love vacationing in Destin, it is so nice there.

Hugs to you all,

Shanon, I'm so glad you've given such a newsy update!!! I'm thrilled that life is full and fabulous.
The story about Matthew West is a great one. Don't you just love "God things"?!!!
The pictures are ALL beautiful. I've had great fun viewing them this morning. It amazes me how prayer creates such a vested interest for us where the lives of "strangers" are concerned. We've never met, but this prayer journey makes me feel so very connected to you!!!

Hi Shannon and Collin - don't know if you remember me but we were at RMH summer of 2004. I was very pregnant (Zoe was born July 7th of that summer). So happy to hear that Collin beat the relapse and I'll pray it stays that way. I love the pictures; looks like you guys have had so well deserved fun. I hope school goes well - life has been so totally different from what you expect that I'm sure it's a hard adjustment to go to school and just be a 'regular kid'. I don't know about you, but these babies of our are anything for 'regular'. We're talking miracles!! And I'm so grateful for them. I hope you get some strength and endurance back. I think it takes us a long time to restore all that gets drained from us as we care for a child with CA. Anyway, you guys look great and I'm happy he's well. You take care of yourself! Hey guys! Hope you're having a great week before Christmas! We miss seeing you guys at the clinic. I think we must just miss each other. I'll have to send you a new picture of Anna - she's bald now and looks so much like Collin. We keep saying they could be brother and sister! Anna is just finishing 20 days of steroids, so she has a chubby little face and belly again. She's standing here begging for food as I type!

Glad you're home for Christmas and not in Memphis. Take care and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Merry Christmas!

Hi Shanon and Collin,

It was great meeting you at the clinic today. We will be praying for Collin every day. You are a great young man! Thankyou for playing pool with Anna. She had fun. We didn't realize you just had a birthday! Happy Birthday to you!!! It was really good talking with you, Shanon. It's so easy to talk to another mom going through the same things. It's a long, tiresome road to walk our babies through, but it's so worth it. I know Anna is who she is because of what she's gone through and it's evident in Collin, too. He seems like an amazing little guy! I know it is only making the rest of us grow in character, too, only by God's grace. Well, look forward to seeing you again sometime!! Take care, Holly Badman

Collin, I'm praying for your trip to Memphis to be a good one and for your treatments to go well. Enjoy the special visits you get to have while you are there. Psalm 56:3-4 says, "When I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid." I will pray that you and your Mom will be very safe in your travels and that something SPECIAL will happen on your way...so be looking for it! It could be anything that God desires to send your way to show you that He loves you in a special way. Maybe, if you see it (or hear it or touch it) your Mom can tell us about it in your journal. You are greatly loved by many people. Although we haven't met, God has put a special place in my heart with your name on it so I think about you often and pray for you each time. A PRAYER FOR CHRISTMAS

God Give Us eyes this Christmas
To see the Christmas Star.
And give us ears to hear the song
of angels from afar

And, with our eyes and ears attuned
for a message from above,
Let "Christmas Angels" speak to us
of hope and faith and love

Hope to light our pathway
When the way ahead is dark,
Hope to sing through stormy days,
with the sweetness of the lark

Faith to trust in things unseen
and know beyond all seeing
That it is in our Fathers love
We live and have our being

And love to break down barriers
of color, race and creed,
Love to see and understand
and help all those in need.

Lord, bless those we love this Christmas Day,be they near or far away Bless those good friends who mean so much and those with whom we're out of touch. We bring them all to You in prayer, and ask You to keep them in Your care.

Please know that you are thought of, in a very special way, not just this beautiful season but every day.

Dear Mrs. Burke and Collin,

First i'd like to thank you Mrs. Burke for being so willing to share your experience and knowledge about leukemia. I know this has been a very long journey for your entire family, especially for Collin. He is one tough monster! tell him to hang in there and that he is always in my prayers.
I hope one day I will be able to help kids like him. Everytime I come to the clinic my heart lights up. It's like for once in my life I feel like I belong somewhere. Although, sometimes I feel like I'm just in the way and not being helpful. I wish I could do more in the clinic but I understand that there are procedures they must follow and that I am not licensed in doing certain things.

Then there are also days like today where I meet wonderful people like you, and I think to myself that this is why I am here. I can't stop smiling everytime I come to the clinic...I guess when you want something so badly and finally realize that you are almost there...it's one of the most wonderful feelings in the world. It's almost like getting butterflies on a first date!

Sometimes i wonder if ppl think that Im a fool for smiling in such a serious place...but i guess humor is always good for the spirit...it helps heal the body.

anyways I guess I'll stop rambling. I just wanted to thank you for all your kindness.

love,
Marissa

Shanon -- thinking of you guys. Hearing that your child has relapsed is devestating. I'm sorry you have to go through all of this again. I hope I can offer you support and help along the way. My son Colin relapsed 2 years 4 months off treatment. He started up chemo again in September 2002. I never thought we could get through this very tough protocol. Here we are, July 1, 2004 and he has just 3 months of treatment left to go. YOU CAN DO THIS!! Put one foot in front of the other, do what needs to be done. It isn't easy, but as you know, you will do whatever needs to be done for your son. Hugs to you all!! Please email me if you need to talk or have questions or anything. Also there is an All-kids Relapse list. If you want to be put on the list, let me know.

Hey Burkes, how are you doing? I hope you all are enjoying your summer!!! Did I ever tell you we found some bunnies in our backyard recently. Actually, our dog did - the kids were in the pool and she was barking like crazy under the pool deck. Finally when we checked there was a bunny nest with a baby bunny in it. Then after more looking through it we found 2 more. SO since i have 3 kids and there was 3 bunnies, they each named one. We left lettuce and water and carrots out there but it was never touched so we dont think the mom came back. About 2 days later we took them in to feed them and we had them a week, feeding them kitten milk from a kitten bottle or dropper. They were SO cute! They called them Jean, Robin and Nibbles. My son Gooch called his Jean, named after Jean Smart in XMen. They opened their eyes while we had them and by the end of the week we had them they were running all over, more running than hopping. I wish I had remembered that that you had a rabbit, we could have asked you for advice. My husband was convinced they were going to grow up and bite our fingers off, so we turned them over to a Childrens Museum that is a wildlife rehab center near us. I hope they are being taken care of, if they werent already released. I know the kids loved them and they really were cute!! That was our thrill for the summer – hope you are enjoying yours!

Wow we are in the same boat. Ronnie has 4 more months of treatment left and has had a chronic cough that we have been told is everything from post nasal drip to a chemo cough to allergies.. and now was just hospitalized for pneumonia & asthma. They want him checked for allergies as soon as he is off treatment.... see now, they told us the chemo would interfere with the allergy testing...?

Hi Shanon,

How's the scrapbook coming along? Making scrapbooks is one of my hobbies, so I know how much time and effort it takes -- but it's so much fun, isn't it?!

I wish it was sunny here, but unfortunately, I'm surrounded by snow. We got 2 feet of snow last weekend and it's snowing again right now (we're supposed to get 6-10 inches during the next three days). My shovel is becoming an unwelcomed friend.

Thanks for the update and I'll check back on Friday. You and Collin are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care...

Aloha, Collin, Shanon and family. Just checking in and glad all's well with Collin. Hope your grandmother is doing well. Nettie had recently complained of stomach aches first thing in the morning - no nausea or vomiting though. I'm thinking she's having hunger pains but calls it a "stomach ache" - anyway usually after she eats something the complaints stop. I guess it could be that acidy feeling - also I wonder if that 6MP right before bed could be the cause - doc says probably not. Well, if this turns out to be our biggest problem through the rest of treatment (we're halfway) then I'll be a happy woman. Wishing you all the best.

Hi Collin,

Just stopping by from the ALL-list to check out your web site and say hi. You are so handsome! I'm so glad you found something to help with the taste of the breathing treatments. My little boy, Daniel, also has ALL and he hates the taste of his medicine. I will have to tell him how well you are doing so he knows it gets better. You sound like such a brave boy. Have a great day!

Hey Collin! I love your website! I am glad you are doing so well with your treatments. My son Bobby was sick when he was a little boy and he also had to take a lot of medicine and get alot of pokes, which sometimes made him cry, but he's all better now and all grown up. I am cheering you on and praying for you at my house where its very cold and windy right now! It was blowing so hard today that my kids ran outside with sheets billowing outside behind them, so they could pretend they were sailing out on the ocean. It was fun to watch the sheets flying up high.

Hello! Sorry to read about yet another kid with cancer.
My son just turned 5, was diagnosed with ALL at 3 1/2.
We are due to end treatment Sept 2003.
He is doing great - been battling pneumonia a little bit for last 2 weeks, but really this is only setback thus far.
Its a shame, isnt it? that these kids have to go thru so much.....
I hope you are doing well and will include you in our prayers for permanent remission!
