Welcome to Andrew's Web Page.
2 YEARS POST-TREATMENT!

It has been provided to keep people updated about Drew's condition and progress through treatment.

Andrew was diagnosed with Synovial Cell Sarcoma, a soft-tissue cancer, in October 2002. He had a 2cm tumor in his neck that was removed over the course of three surgeries. He had no evidence of disease until a recurrence in his neck in February 2004. He had another surgery at Children's Hospital in Boston. He received chemotherapy at Yale - New Haven Children's Hospital and radiation treatments at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

That's all part of his life, but not who he is... Andrew turned six years old this April. He is a son to Bill and Nicole. He is Tyler's little brother. He is a grandson to Grandpa, Wawa, our angel Grandma Jackie, Papa and Bina. He has a loving family of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. He plays soccer, does Karate, loves to play outside, and is becoming a very smart little first grader!

Thank you for visiting Andrew's page and for your love, support, and prayers!

Journal

Wow - it has been a really long time, but that's because all is GOOD! Since my last update in December, Andrew has undergone 2 sets of scans. Once in March of 2006, which came back ALL CLEAR!

And, we went again on July 18th, 2006. This was a long day of MRI, CT scan, Echocardiogram, and the usual blood work and doctor's visits. We also had a check-up with Andrew's surgeon. Once again we have received the great news that there is no evidence of disease. This marks a milestone for Andrew- as he has reached 2 years off-treatment, which means we will now move to scans every 6 months - since the likelihood of recurrence (in theory) drops. So, next scans January 2007!

So we are of course thrilled with these results. Our busy summer brought us to the start of another school year - which means full-day First Grade for ANDREW!!!! Tyler is now in the 4th grade. And I am the PTA co-president at our school!

So, things are good in the Cordes household. We try really hard to count our blessings, and we do what we can to make our world a more pleasant place. We have become involved with several charitable (childhood cancer related) causes, including Relay for Life in Shelton, many visits (and hopefully soon volunteering) at Camp Sunshine in Maine, and the Sarcoma Alliance.

We are also planning to visit Washington D.C. in early December to view the lighting of a special Christmas Tree that honors childhood cancer sponsored by Candlelighters.org.

May God continue to bless us with good health & happiness.
with hope,
Nicole
