Hi Cindy,

Hope you've had a great birthday and got lots of nice things.

Hip hop, hippety hop
My “Easter Bunny” went off to the shop,
He bought me an egg and lots of chocs
And packed them into a cardboard box.
Then he wrapped it with paper and shiny string
It really was such a pretty thing.
Disaster struck when I opened the door-
He slid across the parquet floor,
He went round the corner and past the stairs
And finished up in a pile of chairs.
Of the Easter goodies not a trace,
he’d thrown them into my fireplace!
So a warning before you go opening doors
Make sure your “Bunny” has non-slip paws!

Happy Easter

With lots of love,

Everyone at Post Pals

God Made You For A Reason

When I look upon my screen
I find a happy reason
the joy that comes to me from you
is gratitude so very pleasing...

What a wonderful creator
that made a friend like you,
He placed a sweet kind person
and gave me lots of comfort too.

A world without your kindness
would be a sad sad world.

But I don't have to worry,
there's no need to be,
because of you I am very happy,
and that's good enough for me.

I've found great people everywhere,
they come into my life.
Just like you, all those others too,
have given me delight.

So I thank God I met you,
I thank him for all seasons.
Now I know for sure with all my heart,
GOD Created YOU for a reason.

A PRAYER FOR CHRISTMAS

God Give Us eyes this Christmas
To see the Christmas Star.
And give us ears to hear the song
of angels from afar

And, with our eyes and ears attuned
for a message from above,
Let "Christmas Angels" speak to us
of hope and faith and love

Hope to light our pathway
When the way ahead is dark,
Hope to sing through stormy days,
with the sweetness of the lark

Faith to trust in things unseen
and know beyond all seeing
That it is in our Fathers love
We live and have our being

And love to break down barriers
of color, race and creed,
Love to see and understand
and help all those in need.

Lord, bless those we love this Christmas Day,be they near or far away Bless those good friends who mean so much and those with whom we're out of touch. We bring them all to You in prayer, and ask You to keep them in Your care.

Please know that you are thought of, in a very special way, not just this beautiful season but every day.

In March 2004 I was diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. But thanks to God I am now fully recovered and I learned that if you have faith miracles can happen. Be strong and no matter what happens don't lose faith. I pray for Cindy’s full recovery.

I am sure the visit with Lam and Sarah and Luke and Christina was great! A bond that will never be broken.

The birds were a-squawking and just bugging me in general to send this greeting for the New Year. New Years Eve they were safely tucked in their cages, with a loud air purifier running so they didn't hear all the fireworks in our neigbhorhood. We are a "stay at home" family on New Years, because so many of our neighbors put on spectacular fireworks displays. But that doesn't help with the birds, that's for sure! So, as we rolled in this new year, we were thinking about you today, our long distance friend, and oh, yes, the dogs and cats just reminded me they want to be included in our wish, too. So, here goes. Happy New Year from: (there'll be a quiz on this later, ha ha ha!)

Sport the collie, Murphy the Shih-Tzu, Esmerelda the Maine Coon cat, Lex the black cat, O'Malley the grey and white cat, Charlotte the himalayan, Tripoli the Yellow Nape Amazon, Pompeii the Severe Macaw, Dasani the Blue-headed Pionus, Mokuba the Jenday, and Mirage the Congo African Grey...(all 11) and Sam the 6th grader, Ben the 4th grader, Cathie and Mike. Whew. By the time you get through all these, it will be 2005!

Remember, you can click on the photo to see the birds on their website. (They told me THEY own it now. Pushy, aren't they?)

Random Acts of Kindness

Amanda <mrlynr1110@aol.com>
- Thursday, January 1, 2004 1:33 PM CST
God grant us this year a wider view,
So we see others' faults through the eyes of You;
Teach us to judge not with hasty tongue,
Neither the adult ... nor the young.

Give us patience and grace to endure
And a stronger faith so we feel secure;
And instead of remembering, help us forget
The irritations that caused us to fret.

Freely forgiving for some offense
And finding each day a rich recompense,
In offering a friendly, helping hand
And trying in all ways to understand,
That all of us whoever we are ...
Are trying to reach "an unreachable star."

For the great and small ... the good and bad,
The young and old ... the sad and glad,
Are asking today, "Is life worth living?"
And the answer is only in "loving" and "giving."

For only "Love" can make man kind
And Kindness of Heart brings Peace of Mind,
And by giving love we can start this year
To lift the clouds of hate and fear.

***Wishing all of you a VERY happy 2004***

Sending lots and lots of BIG hugs your way!!!

Sam and Ben are certainly creative, aren't they?! They were clowning around and with a simple hat, paper towels for a beard, and lots of pillows...emphasize LOTS....they came up with these costumes that they wanted to share with you. I don't know, I think Ben (on the right) looks more like a very well fed Sumo wrestler!

It was fun to see them waddling around, and FORGET trying to sit down...they plopped right off the chairs. (That is, the chairs they managed to even make contact with. With so much stuffing, they couldn't see where they were aiming and usually ended up on the floor. They didn't feel a thing with so much padding, though!) They eventually gave up, so the costumes weren't on very long, needless to say. Thank goodness, I was worried about my pillows' stuffing!

Hi, Cindy! I'm sorry I haven't signed in a long time. I'm glad to see an update and to know you are doing so well. I'm praying for you and the other JMML families too. There has been quite a bit of bad news on Caringbridge lately, but there has been great news too.

You are right!! I am still behind on the update.....I am writing it though....it's in my "drafts" file....I just need to finish it and am waiting til Brian's new school picture is back to add to the photo page.

Great update though from you, and I am so envious that you got to meet one of our JMML family!! I wish we could all meet! The bond is only stronger once you meet! I promise to call you the next time I/we are in Denver!

Glad things are going so well for Cindy and that Brian and Angela are thriving as well. Life does go on, doesn't it? I wish it did for all the kids though. It's been so tough lately. Thank you for the kind words about my mom too. That has contributed to my delay in writing Brian's update.

Wishing you all the best for a wonderful holiday......certainly a lot to be thankful for.
Take care.

Thu and family,
Looks like I'm not the only one who is slow or behind on updates, huh? Usually that just means that life has somehow gone on, in a different way, but keeps us too busy to sit and write about it as often!! It is a blessing that life has gone on for our kids, when it hasn't for some of our other JMML family, but it doesn't mean that it goes on without difficulties.....I hope Cindy is still doing very well and is not suffering any of the long term effects from transplant and treatment. I'm trying to get an update done on Brian soon, but I hope to see one on Cindy as well.

Hope life in my favorite place is going well! Missing Colorado so much!

Take care.

Happy Halloween from us goblins and ghouls over in Houston! (Well, okay, Ben is a YuGi and Sam is a ninja!) It was a steamy 80 degrees tonight, so all the witches, frankensteins, mummies and whatnots were pretty hot trotting around the neighborhoods. We wanted you to know we are thinking about you.

This little cutie just dazzled me when I visited the bird nursery..so we've added a FIFTH bird to our flock! I couldn't believe the sizzling blue coming through..and he's only TWO MONTHS old! He's a boy (they did a DNA blood test) and he wobbled onto my finger and said, "Dah bop?" My heart went "pit pat" and the rest is history. I was lucky, because these guys aren't that common. This breeder has only had one other one...five years ago!

We are known for our unusual and original bird names. Well, this little guy is a BLUE HEADED PIONUS. So, meet DASANI. You know, like the BLUE bottled water by Pepsi? And guess what his nickname is? SONIC, (derived from the "sani") another BLUE item, ie, the Sega blue mascot? (think video games) How perfect!

Dasani will have a hot blue/purple head, it's awesome! But what you'd love the most is their smell. They have a fruity smell! Dasani smells like a cherry-orange mix! Well, we just wanted to share our baby news with you. Dasani will be in the nursery for another month or so. Bye for now, more bird pics coming soon.

Hi Cindy! Instead of posting my birds' pictures, this time I thought we'd go wild. This is one of 300 pictures I took. Did you know Indochinese tigers LOVE to swim? They do. We watched these two for about an hour at the Houston Zoo. They have a huge area to lounge around in, and a wide "river" to swim in. The Houston Zoo is known for its natural habitats...some are so good, you can't see the animals. We never did spot the leopards (no pun intended.) which were hidden up in their rocky area.

Here's some fact about these tigers for you! They are found in mainly in Thailand, but also Cambodia, China, Malaysia, Myanmar, Jamaica, Virgin Islands (U.S.)
They like forest but also hills and mountainous areas. Their stripes are narrower than the Bengal tiger..but folks OFTEN get these guys mixed up! And guess how much they weigh when they are born? TWO ounces! The mom usually has 2-4 babies and by a year and a half old, they are skilled enough hunters to say, "See ya later!"

Click on the picture to go to the Houston Zoo page ..I've linked you the page where you can click on any of the mammals and see great pictures and facts. (I spent about an hour surfing the page myself! You can also go to birds, fish, reptile pages, etc.) Enjoy!

My yellow nape amazon, Tripoli, thought you'd like a picture of a bird in your guestbook. She is a show off! Did you know she she sings Yankee Doodle, Saints Come Marching In, and Old Mac Donald Had A Farm? She also says 150 different things, such as (wolf whistle) "Wow! You're a ten!" Other things are "You're my baby," and "I love you" and "Whatcha doing?" and "I want outside!" She also tells me, "I want food." She also does MY laugh then says, "You're funny!" The last time I corrected her singing, she told me, "There ya go!" like SHE was teaching ME!

We are working on "Uh oh. I taste like chicken." Aren't I mean? Hee hee hee. Total, I have four birds. Tripoli, Pompeii (a severe macaw) Callao (a Half Moon Conure) and Mirage (a Congo African grey) They keep me busy! We're all thinking about you..and SO jealous of those beautiful Niagra Falls and vacation pictures! Thanks for sharing!

(BTW, If anyone who owns birds would like to join our Feathers 'n Smiles group, just click on the picture. We sign guestbooks of these wonderful kids and tell them briefly about our birds. )(You don't have to do pictures.)

Wow!! What a vacation!! And you were in DC?? I'm sure you were much too busy, but it would have been cool if we could have met up while we were in Richmond, Va. (1 1/2 hrs away). Of course, we went back to Colorado too, but we had NO time to visit hardly ANYone while we were there!! It was a whirlwind trip! It sounds like you had a great time on your summer adventures, and I am sooo, sooo happy that Cindy is doing so well! What a success story, for sure!

I wish you and Cindy and your entire family continued good luck. Maybe on the next trip back to Colo. we can finally meet up!

Take care. Thinking of you all often!

I'm so happy to see an update! Sounds like you and your family had a wonderful time on your vacation. I aboslutely loved looking at the pictures from your trip. I'm so glad all of you had a great time.

I'm also happy to hear everyone is in good health, except for that nasty ear infection you've got. Ear infections aren't any fun. I've had my share in the past and I think they stink. Hopefully the doctor will be able to give you something for it and you'll be feeling good again soon.

As always, you and your entire family are always in my thoughts and prayers.

Hello!!

Wow! Cindy is looking like a totally normal healthy little (getting bigger) girl!! So glad to hear about all the normal counts and hoping that the BMA results prove that she is all donor!

Thanks for the Easter wishes on Brians website...all the best to you all too. I don't know when we are coming home to visit, but when we do, I hope we can all get together to meet. Oh, and btw, I never did send in my vote on the pics, but my guess would have been right (I know you are saying, "yea sure---now that you know the results!", but really, that WAS my guess.....I just never came back to vote when I had time and then I forgot!). That was kind of fun though. Your kids all look very similar at that age. I would do it, but Brian was so obviously "different" looking because he was so sick, that you would definitely be able to tell the differnce between him and Eric. Anyway, I am excited about your upcoming wish trip.....sounds like a lot of fun, and I hope all goes well! Can't wait to hear about it and see photos. If I don't get back to you before then, have a great time!

All the best to you all! Take care.

I'm Christy mommy to an Angel. My daughter, Jordyn had AML leukemia. She was just 6 days short of turning 1 yr old when she was dx and she fought with such strength, beauty, and smiles for 14 months. After a "Successful" MUDBMT, 2 1/2 months later Jordyn relapsed. The drs gave her the rest of February to live (she relapsed Feb 1, 2000)..Jordyn went home on May 8, 2000.
I'm thankful for everyday that I was blessed to have my little girl. I'd be honored if you visited her site. We have her new geocities site, which I've been working for almost a year, I'm transferring all the journals I had on her caringbridge site over to it. Here are both sites:

Hi guys, I am glad to hear all is well there. That ampho nasal spray is money well spent, as I know 2 kids with the aspergillius fungus and its NOT a good thing at all. I wish the prescriptions werent so expensive though. Ronnie just started kindergarten too, and I am lucky that he can write his name, forget the alphabet! He has no desire to concentrate long enough to go through it.... so Brian is starting really well!

It took a long time to disappear from his blood stream but it did no damage to him. Just thought you might like to know it is not always life threatning. Alex is 2yrs post transplant and they still check for the ebv virus every few months

Thu and Binh,

Just checking in.....heard the news of the lymph node....hoping that it is "just a little virus" that clears up easily. It's hard to go through all these little bumps in the road and not be worried. Harder to wait to know what's going on.....hang in there and know that you have the hugs and prayers and thoughts of SOOOOOO many of us out here.

I loved seeing your new photos......and I am so jealous of your trip to Evergreen and Vail. Was the lake photo of Evergreen Lake?? You know, that is where we lived when we were there.....Evergreen. I miss the mountains and evergreens (and DRY climate) so much!! The serenity and beauty of Colorado is kept forever in my mind and heart. It's always going to be "home" to me, no matter where I happen to live!!

Enjoy it for me!

Take care.

It is devasting for our JMML children to even get a runny nose let alone an enlarged lymph gland. Dana has a good point. These children don't usually relapse silently. Colby's counts were never really stable and this was attributed to "his donor having a different blood type". He required support of PRBC at least once a month. It is so very hard to compare these children. They present and respond so differently. It is reassuring that we have a wonderful support group and everyone is watching out for each other. As always, we are here for you and you are always in our prayers. Sending a big hug your way........
Love

Hey there, we are very sorry to hear about the lymph gland. Let's hope and pray that it will be something simple and not serious. You and your family is always in our thoughts and prayers. If you ever need to chat, please feel free to call. Glad to hear that you will be saving the cord blood. Let's hope that it will be a perfect match. If you collect some extra cord blood at the time of the delivery, you can have the doctor do the typing right away without having to "thaw out" the specimen that is sent to CBR. That was what we did when Christina (our daughter) was born and Luke was in the hospital.

We are elated that everyone is back home. Glad to hear that Cindy's cardiac studies have improved. Please have faith that Day 100 is a day of celebration. The news about Colby's relapse was of course devastating to say the least. We are not done with this battle and God is just showing signs that he hasn't finished his miraculous work with Colby. Hi guys,
It's been awhile since I have written or checked in, but I DO appreciate all the nice notes you have sent to Brians guestbook. I think of you all often, and read updates when I can.....I am so happy you are approaching discharge and hope that it comes without any trouble and that Cindy gets to stay home for a long time.....I am so happy that she has done so well throughout this transplant too. I know there have been setbacks, but compared to how bad some kids have gotten, she has done really well. That pleases me so much...of course, the comparison does not lessen the difficulties you HAVE gone through.

I send you all my best wishes as you continue to progress in this recovery.
Take care,

Hello Dearest Cindy and family
I am Colby Cole's mom. He too was diagnosed with JMML in January 2002. We are at day +56. I know all about that yuckie cyclosporine. Colby would vomit at the smell. It has been a constant battle. We still have to force him to take it. We have had the best apothacaries attempt to mask the taste but it is so unstable. We did find that placing the syringe along the cheek and follow with orange juice or milk seems to work best. He then takes his acyclovir to cover the nasty taste. He will still sometimes vomit. But it is mostly when he is nauseated. You may even try premedicating with an antiemetic. It is worth a shot. Good luck. It is too bad it has to be given for 6-9 months post transplant. I am glad I found your website. I have been trying to access it for months. I had the wrong state abbrev. Stay strong and may God place you and your family in his healing hands.
Love and prayers

New stem cells... Both of our kids have receive the gift of life from an un-related donor/person. How precious is this? Someone who we have never met... We should count our blessing as there are many childrens and adults out there still waiting and praying for a donor. We are truly lucky.

Hi Thu & Binh & Cindy:
It great that you have started the conditioning regimen in preparation for the transplant. Although Luke's conditioning regimen is different from Cindy, the ultimate aim is the same; that is, to wipe out the old bone marrow and to transfuse new stem cells. Is it true that a parent cannot stay with Cindy at night? I sure hope not, as that is very cruel to Cindy and her family. Luke would be very unhappy if he was alone at night. Good Luck this week with the chemo.

Hello again!!
Hooray for transplant countdown!! It's only the beginning, but it feels good to at least be started I bet! I remember that feeling........for so long you are gearing up for it and you just want to DO it so you can try and help your daughter....now it is finally here!! THANK YOU CORD BLOOD DONOR MOTHER!!! You gave an incredibile gift! The gift of life!

I hope that Cindy does ok with staying alone......I will admit, that is one of the things we did not like about the program there, and one of the reasons we opted to go back to the original transplant center. I am surprised that they still have that policy. There are numerous centers around the country that allow the parent or main caregiver to spend the night with their child........I understand that they are trying to keep the number of germs down, but, it seems silly when you spend the entire day there already........anyway, sorry. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.... I can't imagine not having been there with Brian through the nights.....especially since he was just a baby and unable to communicate any of his needs. I hope she adjusts ok to not having you all there.

Thinking of you all and sending lots of good thoughts and prayers.

Once the transplant process starts, it will be very isolating. If you have a laptop and a webcam and internet access, we can see each other. Your family from across the country can also see you as well. We are now day +2 of transplant. Luke is doing faily well and continues to slowly improves. Hang in there, it will be a long roller coaster ride.

Dear Thu and Binh,

We have not been "formally" introduced yet, but I am hoping that you have maybe heard of my son through Dana, Jennie or Sarah. If not, let me just tell you that my son, Brian, has also gone through dx and tx for JMML. He was dx at birth, and had his first transplant at 9 mos old. This was almost 5 yrs ago. It was not enough back then to cure him, so he went back for a second transplant almost 3 yrs ago at the age of 2 1/2. He will be 6 in August. It certainly has not been an easy road, but, I can give you some hope in your battle by telling you that Brian has been without the leukemia for almost 3 yrs now. If there is ANYthing I can help with, or questions I can answer, or you just need another parent to talk to who has been down the same road, please let me know and I will help however I can. It may be helpful to know that we lived in Denver the whole time Brian went through treatment (although, he had his transplants out of state) so there may be resources that we had that we can pass along to you.

I have saved your website, along with Zacharys, Lukes and Kaylis, to check in and see how Cindy is doing and I send all my best thoughts and prayers your way as you go through this ordeal. If you would like to see Brians past or current updates, you can go to his website at www.caringbridge.com/co/brianspage. We did not start it at the beginning like most of you have because we did not have a computer back then, but it goes back to the time shortly after Brians second transplant.

Take care.
Hugs,

Dear Thu & Binh:
It's been only about five months since Luke was diagnosed with JMML; but, it seem like an eternity. Sometimes, I ask myself if I will ever wake up from this nighmare and sometimes, it seems like this is a nightmare that will never end... I have realized that this is not a nightmare; but, it's reality... I think that in total, I have live in the hospital with Luke for 5 weeks thus far. I will spend another 6 weeks in the hospital during the trasplant and another 6 weeks at Ronald McDonald House near the hospital. I know that the two weeks that Cindy, you and your wife spent in the hospital can seem to last forever and yet, it goes by so quick as well... Hang in there... Please remember to take care of yourself as well. Both you and your wife need breaks. You have to get out of the hospital and go do something that you enjoy. You will feel better and have more energy to care for Cindy when you return. I personally take Saturday morning off to get some exercise by playing basketball with a bunch of guys. I feel so much better afterward. It's something I look forward to all week. It's my little break and treat for myself.

Again, hang in there.

To Cindy and her family,
It grieves me deeply to hear of such tragedy, but I pray that in these times we all learn to treasure such things in our lives like our family and friends. Although it may be a painful time right now, I hope that your love for each other, especially Cindy would grow. No matter what may come, always remember the ones who were with you in your time of need. All of you will be in my prayers. God Bless.

It's painful to hear about Cindy's medical condition. But we must not forget we have an almighty God who is merciful and compassionate to those who fear Him. Continue to pray for Cindy and be courageous and patient. In everything God works good for those who loves Him. His grace is sufficient for us. Psalm 23

Dear Anh Thu & Binh,

We are so sorry about Le. She is a very cute and pretty little girl. We have a strong belief that she will find the match and recover soon from the sickness. We will keep praying for her and for your whole family. Keep hoping. Everything will be okay.

We have posted the news on the Vietnamese Newspaper to look for the donors. Tell us if there is anything that we can help.

Hope you have a better year and good luck with Le.

Best friend ever.

Dear Thu & Binh:
As we travel this journey together, we will never be alone. We have joined a larger family. A family that includes childrens like Cindy, Luke, Zachary, Kayli, etc. and their parents and grandparents and their extended families. We are all here to help each other through these difficult times. We are joyful that Cindy has found some umbilical cord blood matches. We are sorry to hear that her platelets has changed so dramatically. In this new year, our family hope and pray for Cindy's, Luke's and all childrens afficted by leukemia to overcome their illness and have a speedy recovery.

Live long and prosper my friend.

Happy Birthday Cindy! I can't wait to see the pictures. That is great news about the potential donors. Dr. Do you are an amazing person to help Cindy's family while Luke is so sick. Our kiddies are strong, JMML wont get the better of them. Cindy, I look forward to checking in for good news. Here's to a healthy and happy year, one that is cancer free.
God Bless,
