Dearest Trey,

It has been two years since you went to a much better place. It seems like yesterday and it also seems like so long ago. One thing is certain and that is the fact that it is not getting any easier without you. To say that we miss you just does not describe the magnitude of how we feel! Not a day goes by that we don’t talk about you! We have wonderful memories of you! We always comment on things we know you would like or movies or shows you would like! You are always in our thoughts! We talk to Tyson about you. We know he will be very proud of his big brother and that you will watch over him always. You are a blessing that will live on within us forever. A memory popped into my mind today of when Liana told Noah that you had gone to Heaven. He was very upset and said “Mommy, can’t we have just one more day at Fun Fun Park together? Just one more day?” Oh, what we wouldn’t give for just one more day! We still have the picture Noah drew of all of us at Fun Fun Park on the fridge. Damien got a big tattoo in your memory on his left shoulder. You would love it! Zak will get one too eventually. It gives us comfort knowing that you are no longer in pain. You are free to be a boy and have fun! We are sure you are running around having fun with Dallas! You really loved her and you were probably there to greet her with a great big hug!

Love you in the World, Sweet Trey!
Mommy, Daddy, Zak, Damie and baby Tyson

On the Death of the Beloved

Though we need to weep your loss
You dwell in that safe place in our hearts,
Where no storm or night or pain can reach you.

Your love was like the dawn,
Brightening over our lives,
Awakening beneath the dark
A further adventure of color.

The sound of your voice
Found for us
A new music
That brightened everything.

Whatever you enfolded in your gaze
Quickened in the joy of its being;
You placed smiles like flowers
On the altar of the heart.
Your mind always sparkled
With the wonder of things.

Though your days here were brief,
Your spirit was alive, awake, complete.
Though we cannot see you with outward eyes,
We know our soul's gaze is upon your face,
Smiling back at us from within everything,
To which we bring our best refinement.

Let us not look for you only in memory,
Where we would grow lonely without you;
You would want us to find you in presence,
Beside us when beauty brightens
When kindness glows
And music echoes eternal tones.

When orchids brighten the earth,
Darkest winter has turned to spring,
May this dark grief flower with hope
In every heart that loves you.

May you continue to inspire us:
To enter each day with a generous heart,
To serve the call of courage and love,
Until we see your beautiful face again,
In that land where there is no more separation,
Where all tears will be wiped from our mind.
And where we will never lose you again.
