SAM'S STORY

On May 30, 2004, at the age of 3, Sam was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, and was placed on a chemotherapy protocol entitled CCG 1991 Augmented, involving 3 years and 3 months of chemotherapy.

Sam is now 7 years old, and he completed his chemotherapy in August of 2007. He is active, gregarious and we are all now enjoying life off treatment. For those of you who have been following our journey, we thank you always for surrounding us with your love and care.

Happy New Year!

It's been a very long time since I last wrote on this site. But, of course, I still so appreciate those of you who check in on occasion. And since this is the first day of 2009, this seemed like a good time to write and to let you know that we are well.

Sam is now visiting the follow-up clinic every 3 months, and he gets his bloodwork at the same time. This change away from the monthly bloodwork makes us all very happy. I will admit that if Sam ever gets sick or seems tired, I do get this mad urge to rush him in for bloodwork though. So far, this is an urge that I have resisted!

All three kids are growing like weeds and are a continuing source of delight for us. Juliet recently turned 3, and Sam and Noah are going on 8 and 6. Sam in particular, has gotten so much bigger. You can really see it when he's around his friends. He has one friend who used to tower over him, and Sam is now the same height. He has another friend who used to be about the same size as him, and Sam is now the tall one in comparison.

I hope all of you are well. I haven't forgotten the many kind messages and e-mails that you sent during the course of Sam's long journey. And if you're reading today, know that we are always wishing you the best.
