Saturday, July 4, 2009 8:26 PM CDT Happy 4th of July to all of you Americans reading this.
Dennis had been telling me he couldn’t see well out of one eye, so he went to the optometrist by Handi-bus on Friday and I met him there. It’s hard to test the sight of someone who can’t read letters. We had that problem last year, so the optometrist used the chart with E’s . However, instead of pointing to the direction the E was pointing, he just pointed to wall. This year he was able to identify all of the E’s facing in the correct direction like an E should be. It worked doing it that way. He needed a stronger correction in the left eye of his reading glasses, and needs correction for astigmatism, so over-the- counter generic reading glasses will no longer work for him. Otherwise his eyes are doing fine.
Instead of having a Handi-bus come and get him, I took Dennis back to the home--that was a big mistake. He was extremely agitated, yelled at me constantly as I was driving and insisted that I stop at SuperStore so he could buy chocolate chip cookies, M & M’s, and a strawberry rhubarb pie. Did he intend to share them in the home? No, that was not what he had in mind. He also checked the door to see if I locked it, so my guess is that he would have run again if it had been unlocked. Oh, the challenges! Next time he can go home by Handi-bus. I was exhausted afterward.
I’m so glad we’re not taking Dennis to the Stampede.
Rachel and I were at the Stampede for six hours this afternoon, mostly walking around and looking. We saw the Superdogs (trained dogs), arts and crafts, a cooking demonstration (making bannock), kitchen gadgets and other items for sale, as well as some of the animals in the animal barn. We also saw an Australian whip cracking demonstration. I soaked my feet when we got home. I’m tired and should sleep well tonight. ******************************************************** RANDOM THOUGHTS
Have you been propping up that foolish soul of yours with the idea that your circumstances are too much for God to handle? Set all your opinions and speculations aside and "abide under the shadow of the Almighty" ( Psalm 91:1 ). Deliberately tell God that you will not fret about whatever concerns you. All our fretting and worrying is caused by planning without God. –Oswald Chambers
