Ashley's Journey Welcome to my website! This is to keep you all updated on what is happening with my treatment!
Journal
Saturday, December 11th, 2010 Hi Everyone
Tomorrow would have been Ashley’s 27th birthday and in so many ways it does not seem any easier a day to face than it did that first birthday without her. Somehow it just seems wrong to have Dec. 12th come and Ashley not be here with us to celebrate it. We miss her so much each and every day and are so thankful for all the people who share with us how they remember and miss her too.
We are planning some kind of fundraiser for Keep on Swimming this summer. If you have any ideas of what we should do or if you are interested in being involved please send us an email at kosgala@gmail.com and we will keep you up to date on what is happening.
As I write this I am listening to Ashley’s friend Dan Mangan’s beautiful song Ash Babe. If you have not heard the song find a moment today to take a listen. You can hear it by clicking on the following link It can also be downloaded on itunes.
Thanks for continuing to remember and share Ashley's story.
Love Heidi
Hi Everyone,
A couple of exciting things I wanted to let people know about. First of all, a young womens volleyball team from Burnaby played in a charity volleyball tournament for Keep on Swimming, so because of their generousity and thoughtfulness KOS was given $800! Isn't that fantastic! Thank you to Chelsea and the amazing Action Impact volleyball team. The second thing I wanted to let you know about is that Ashley's (and my) GP Dr. Kyra Roeck is participating along with her husband Scott Bennett (one of Ashley's high school teachers) for the second year in a triathlon in Hawaii on May 18 to raise money for leukemia and lymphoma research. She has a photo of Ash on her site as her honoured hero. So if you want to support her that would be fantastic. Click here to access her website. Thank you Dr. Roeck and Mr. Bennett!
Still thinking about what Keep on Swimming event we should have this summer. If you have any ideas or want to help out send me an email.
Love Heidi

Hi Everyone,
I can’t believe it has been such a long time since I updated this site. The gala was a huge success! We raised over $36,000 and I know Ashley would be very proud. I am still hoping to get photos up on the Keep on Swimming website.
Thank you to the many people who continue to donate blood in Ashley’s memory and those who wish they could but are not eligible. I also want to let people know that there have been some changes to the unrelated bone marrow registry that is run by Canadian Blood Services. They seem to finally be acknowledging that most donations now are not of bone marrow but stem cells instead (much less painful for the donor). The process to join is getting even simpler (I don’t think they even need a blood test to do your typing) and it is such an amazing gift that you could give someone. Check out Canadian Blood services website for more details.
Christmas is fast approaching and if you have some people on your Christmas list that have everything and seem impossible to buy for consider making a donation to Keep on Swimming in their name and we will send them a card letting them know about your generous gift.
December 12th would have been Ashley’s 24th birthday. We miss her so much each day but these special days and holiday times are particularly hard. Thanks for everyone’s continued support and love.
Blessings on your holiday season, Heidi

Hi Everyone,
The gala is this Friday August 24th! We can hardly believe that it is only a few days away. There are so many amazing people working on it and I just know it will be an incredible evening, just as Ashley would want it. If you were thinking about coming get your tickets now so that I can give the hotel a final count. To get tickets go to our website by clicking here. The address is www.keeponswimming.org. I have added some of the fabulous silent auction for people to preview.
This gala is Ashley's dream. I know we will miss her terribly at the gala, but her spirit will be with us and she will be watching and smiling because so many of her friends and family will be together helping find a cure for cancer.
Take care, Heidi
