Steven Sai Ho Hui

May 8, 1992 - November 3, 2001

Welcome to Steven's own Web Page. It has been provided to keep people updated about his battle against a rare child cancer called Neuroblastoma. Steven was a brave 9 years old boy spending half of his life (4 & 1/2 years) battling diligently this child cancer with the loving support of those who know him (Please go to web site www.hosannaproductions.com/stevenhui to see a 8 minutes home video clip of his short life). Steven was diagnostised with the disease in April 1997. He had gone through many cycles of chemotherapy, radiation and bone marrow transplant at Sick Kid Hospital. The cancer relapsed in October 1998. He went to St. Jude Children Hospital at Memphis USA for experimental vaccine treatment in July 1999, relapsed again 5 months later. Chemotherapy kept him alive until the spring of 2001. We went to Children Hosiptal of Philadelphia for experimental MIBG treatment after Martha Gottschling, the principal of Mill Valley public school initiated the fund raising through Toronto Public schools. Over $100,000 was raised from the communities for Steven's treatment. He had a happy normal summer after the treatment but by the Fall of the year his conditions suddenly made a bad turn. The disease not only took his life but also his dignity in the final month. He was paralysed and loss his sight before he passed away. He may loose the battle but the fight will continue to make sure one day through research this monsterous disease will be beaten and no more children have to suffer like Steven.
Thank you very much for your generous contributions made to Steven Hui Trust Fund. The fund left in the account will be used to support Neuroblastoma research. The first award of $25,000 was made payable to Children Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa to provide seed money for Neuroblastoma antibody study. For more detail information about the project please visit www.ottawanrf.com. The donation was matched by Nortel with another $25,000 donation for the same research project. The Trustees of Steven Trust Fund, Martha and the teachers of Mill Valley public school decided to transfer the rest of the money (more than $56,000)to Steven Hui Neuroblastoma Research Grants set up under the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation. The Grants will be administered by the Research Institute of the Hositpal through its internal peer-reviewed granting process.

Child cancer research is very limited in Canada because it cannot compete with adult cancer for research funding. Therefore there is hardly any improvement in survival rate (15-30%) for Canadian Neuroblastoma children for the last 25 years. Only with your financial support dedicated to Neuroblastoma research you can make a difference.

Steven Hui Trust Account with TD Canada Trust was closed after the transfer in November 2002. In the future please send your donation to the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation in Memory of Steven Hui. Then your donation will be dedicated to Neuroblastoma Research. Thank you for your support.

Time goes fast and time goes slow but a year is definitely slipping away. This is the day one year ago my lovely son Steven slipped away from me and my family. It is a year of despair, grieving, missing Steven and trying to slow down, It was bad in the last few days and may be for the coming few days too.. Every bad memory is painfully coming back and replay over again and again. Today all family members and closed relatives went to the cemetery and paid a visit to Steven with flowers and toys. A picture of Steven was etched on the surface of the tomb. On one side of his name on the tomb a Pokemon trainer with a pokemon on his shoulder was etched. Steven wanted to be Pokemon trainer in Heaven as he told his sister Amy on his final day. On the other side another Pokemon with happy face was etched.
