Well it has been more than two years since our last journal entry. I think we were so anxious to leave this season behind us that we packed this website away with all of the 'no longer needed' bandanas and hats. But we just got an e-mail from another family asking for information about Sierra because their daughter was recently diagnosed with osteo sarcoma. They had been to our web site so......Here is an update!
In December, Sierra officially had two years remission!!!! She is now 13 - Praise God! As a recap - Sierra was diagnosed when she was 7 with osteo sarcoma. The cancer was in the lower part of her left femur. After 6 months of chemo, the doctors removed the bottom of her femur and put a prosthesis inside her leg. She then had 6 more months of chemo (round 2). The prosthesis needs to be lengthened as she grows because they removed the growth plate and the femur will not grow. She has had this surgery 5 times - its difficult and painful, but, she will not have to continue doing it once she is fully grown. When Sierra had 3 years remission she relapsed with a tumor in her left lung. Lung surgery and 6 months chemo saw us creating our caring bridge page. Now, 2 years remission!
Our family has survived and continues to be greatful for what God is doing in our lives.
