Born 1/11/99 (now 7) At the age of 3 1/2 years Serena was diagnosed on 10/11/02 with Standard Risk ALL(Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia)pre B cell. One month into treatment Serena was dx with Coccididomycosis a.k.a Valley Fever. This can be a dangerous combination. Serena has won many battles in her war against cancer. She fought Stapholococcus areaus (gram + in clusters) 3 different times when her intra-veinous central catheter(aka: medi-port this is a pernament IV surgecally inplanted into the large artery going to her heart) became infected. She also fought fungal infections, pancreatitis, viral infections and psuedamonas and she still achieved remission! Secondary bacterial Bronchitis 5/04
She is one BRAVE and STRONG soldier!
Her treatment for Valley Fever was daily anti-fungal meds. Her treatment for Leukemia was a Phase III clinical trial, protocol #CCG 1991 Arm 3 (IS).

UPDATE:

Serena had her dentist visits. they've removed a tooth and done 2 fillings. She still has one more visit to go on Dec 29th for her last filling.
She did so well! I'm SO proud of her!

Ok, so the tructh of the matter is that I cannot seem to get these offensive hackers to stay away. With only 30 visits, 2 legit messages and no response to keeping this page going, it seems in the best intrest for me to delete this page. I HATE to do it. But each time I come here to update, my eyes fall out of my head at the GROSS things that are being plastered in the guestbook. It's unfair to me and to YOU to suffer thoses obsenities.
I'd like to say THANK YOU to everyone who supported us through Serena's journey and beyond. You have made such a difference in our lives and may GOD bless you for it as he has blessed us by letting you into our lives.

May peace be with you.

As of Monday December 18th this site will be gone.

Update: We've been snowed in a week now. they finally opened school, but the bus still can't get to our road. Serena REALLY wanted to go back to school, so , at 6 20 Am in the COLD, COLD, COLD! morning I drove her 3 1/2 miles to the bus stop...ON THE QUAD! Oh, and in case you didn't understand that it's cold...It's 1 o'clock here and it has only made it to 16 degrees...with the SUN SHINING! BRRRRRR! wow, wonder what it's gonna be like when winter actually starts?

Serena's sore throat turned out to be nothing.

Serena's dentist appoint was supposed to be today...but I had to call and reschedule it since we are STILL snowed / iced in...going on 6 DAYS now! No school, of course. We can't get down our road. heck we even got stuck in the DRIVEWAY right infront of the garage! I guess that's what happens when you get 3 inches of ice, 4 inches of sleet on top of that and 7 inches of snow on top of THAT! whew!

So on a serious subject....

My updates are few and far between... And I guess that's a good thing...means life is getting back to normal. Many regular visitors have moved on because of the lack of updates or just moved on to help another child who is still in the thick of it. And that's OK. Our journey is winding down and I'm happy we are getting on with life...BUT...
I've been noticing some problems in the guestbook and anyone whose gone to there to leave a message will have seen it also. I'm very sorry if it has caused offenses...I'm trying to keep that from happening...but I think the only real option is to just close down this page. This page has been a lifeline for us, it became part of our world and so did you, but sociatal trash has found it's way into our sacred home.
I'll monitor this page daily for about 2 weeks to see just how many people are reading this. If there are enough then I might consider starting a new page. If you read this and WANT to continue to read up on Serena drop me an email, or leave a guestbook entry and let me know. If you email me, Please put Caringbridge in the subject line. If I start a new page I'll email you the address.
I'll try to update this page everyother day and let you know what results are coming in.
