John saved my life. Our time together was cruelly brief, I'm not even sure if I was important to him, but he was important to me. At the time I knew him I felt like I had no one, he came into my life full of excitement and happiness. We played together, I struggle to remember my childhood, but I remember him vividly. After he died, I wanted him to be here, it wasn't fair. I let out my anger in incredibly stupid ways. Afterwards I always felt like John would be disappointed in me. I suffered from Suicidal Ideation from the age of 7 all the way until last year. For many, many years, when I came close to ending it all, he would always stop me. He would've been disappointed in me for throwing away my life, of all the insecurities of how he felt about me, that was something I was always confident he would feel. At times, it was the only thing keeping me going. John has always been with me in that sense. He will never die, He's always with me, and my main goal in life is to help others like he helped me through the things I love. I hope I can make him proud. Thank you John, my first ever friend, for saving my life, for being there when no one else was. You are invaluable.

Hi Taggart family! I just had to come see what was happening in your corner of the world today. What prompted me was Andrew fundraising and becoming a shavee at a St. Baldrick's event today. I'm so grateful that it's an event that has so much meaning to him...thanks to you and Angel John. Hopefully he will never forget the reason why we can never stop raising money for kids with cancer. Thank you for coming into his life, and mine too.
Now, please excuse me while I mosey on over to YOUR St. Baldrick's site to donate.

Love, Janice

Happy New Year Taggarts. Sorry this is late, but I have been thinking of your family, and Angel Johm lately. I read the OC Register on line and I always see things that remind me of CA, and sometimes the Taggarts. Last week the Spaghetti Factory was offering $3 meals, and of course I thought of your family. Today I saw three bald men in church, and when I was leaving I noticed the front of their shirts had wording honoring a friend with cancer. So...I thought I'd check in on my favorite St. Baldricks fundraisers. I seriously want to do the whole raise funds and shave my head thing, but there isn't a place here to do it. I will check back to see if you do the fundraiser this year because I'm ready to donate, and shave my head to honor John right here in Texas. Call me crazy.

By the way your children get better looking every time I see a new picture. And just maybe Cal will be a brunette like Tamara?

In my prayers,

I don't know what comments you want here but I have a prayer request for my 2 month old great grandson Caden Dunaway. Friday, November 14, Caden will have hernia surgery at Blair Batson Childrens Hospital in Jackson, MS. This is, as we are told, a simple and common surgery but as in all cases we are concerned about his having to be put to sleep. I ask that you please lift this little one up in prayer that Jesus will wrap his arms around him and bring him through this safely. Your prayers will be deeply appreciated.

Dear Taggarts, I've been thinking about you guys, and remembering John. I can't believe it's been three years since John went to Heaven. I just got back from CA, and stopped in at CHOCs blood bank to donate. Somehow a trip back to CA isn't complete without seeing Maggie and all the nurses. I have two friends that I used to work with who donate regularly at CHOC, and I let them know when I'm in town so we can make it an event. Your names came up, and I don't know if they already knew you guys had moved out of the area, but they certainly love you all.
YWhat a beautiful family you are, and your babies are all getting so big! Cal beat UCLA today, and it reminded me that it was time to check in with the Taggarts. I hope you were able to make the game!
I love you all,

HI Guys!

It's Carrie, Marty, Emily and Jack. We just watched stand up to cancer and of course started thinking about you guys. Anyhow, we had a busy and fun summer too! WE would love to come and visit you guys at your new house. It is probably way easier for us with only 2 kids then for you guys to come here! Ha ha ha! Emily started soccer again, and is in 3rd grade. Jack will start swim class on Monday, he is 3 and will start preschool as soon as he always goes on the big boy potty! At the beginning of October, we are going on a week long trip with Dawn and her new husband Larry to Hawaii. I am hoping to start doing ocf camp again next summer==once jack is 4 and I can be the leader in the little boys cabin! Hope you are well! Maybe we can visit you after soccer season is over!

I should be in bed, but read one more email so here I am.My son Jordan was DX with ALL June 07. He is doing well. It is amazing the lives touched though this journey. I have seen more children get their angel wings in a year than in a life time as of adults. We are staying strong and we continue this long journey. Do what you can. Set up your our Alex's Lemonaide stand, Donate Blood, Host a St. Baldwick's Event. Get on the National Marrow list or sponor your own Marrow Drive. Check out Drivingfordonors.com and meet another amazing child. I am truly in ah by these children.
I never though I would be in this world, but here I am walking forward each day. Money does not solve everything, but without somethings are not possible.

Dear Kelly and Tamara, Chuong sent me the link for the Lemonade Stand, so I read John's story and bawled my eyes out of course. August 18th is a very special date for us as well. Jolie had her heart transplant on August 18th, 2002, John's 2nd birthday. I often look at pictures of her before we knew the diagnosis (we knew at 3 weeks of age that she had Fatal Infantile HCM) and think we look like deer in headlights, so unaware of what was coming. But fortunately, God does not lead us to anything He will not carry us through. You certainly can and have testified to that throughout your journey. Anyway, Derek and I will be heading to San Diego for the Mud Run that weekend and may need some lemonade to help make the long drive. Hopefully, we get by. Otherwise, maybe we will see your family at the 3rd of July Party. I didn't do a website for Jolie while we were in the hospital, just personal emails. But she has one now. It is www.carepages.com and the password is JolieP to see her current updates. She is doing great. It was such a blessing to read John's. Thank You for sharing.
God Bless,
Jane

I read John's story from start to finish, and cried throughout each entry. I saw his photo on the Alex's Lemonade Stand site, and had to find out more about him. My heart goes out to you and your family. We too are family in the Lord, believing for miracles in my body as well. His courage and your family's love has been an inspiration to me, and I will never forget him. What a trooper and blessing! I hope he didn't go through a lot of pain at the end. I lost my sister to breast cancer that spread to her liver, lungs and bone, and it was relentless. She was very brave but died in 2002. I see an entry here that said something happened to your twins, and I pray that they were wrong. Godbless all of you, and thank you again, for telling the story here.

Your family is an awesome inspiration of trust and faith in God--even through the hardest of adversities. I went onto your blog after reading about Jud Levasheff. Our daughter-in-law works with Drake and has asked our family and friends to pray for him. Your comments of faith in God, but trust related to John's time here on earth, were the best! Thanks for touching me--a person you may never meet on this side of eternity!

Kelly, Thanks so much for inviting us to St. Baldricks and for allowing Andrew to shave your head. I have some cute pics, I will send them to you soon (and put them on our site as well.) John's presence was missed greatly. I couldnt help but think of how much fun he would have had cutting your hair and riding in the police car...I pray that the money raised today helps find a cure so that future parents dont have to live with the pain in their hearts that you and Tamara feel. God bless you for your continuing efforts with St. Baldricks and Alex's Lemonade, and may your faith continue to bring you comfort. love to your entire (beautiful!) family, Kim

All of your children are so blessed to have parents who love them and spend so much time doing fun and crazy things (and then taking great family photos to remember the special times). I think of John and your family quite frequently. Your reminiscence of his 5th birthday and his knack for truly enjoying the present without worrying unduly about the future gave me a big knot in my throat. A good lesson for me to put to use in my own life starting today!

I'm so excited about the newest little Taggart that will be here in the next month. My bias is towards pink, but another little blue Taggart would be awfully nice too. I'm very impressed with Hayley. What a lovely and mature young lady she's becoming to be so gracious with her bedroom and the sleeping arrangements.

God bless and keep you all.

Hello Taggart family,
I have been thinking about you all so much,
I was so inspired by John and will never be the same from it,I just recently did my first Lite The Night cancer walk for our friends little boy Mateo.Mateo was diagnosed last September with Leukemia. Back then,I told them then about the Caring bridge site, but it was too much , and too early in the process for them to comprehend, Then a few months later we got an email with news they too had a caring bridge site,(mateofranco)They love it. I am so glad to hear you are all doing well and John still lives on, He always will, I am so glad to hear another Taggart on the way, Good luck to all and keep the pictures coming , You have a beautiful family. Dearest Tamara & Family:
As you know my thoughts and prayers go out to you today, just as they did one year ago! Tamara, I find myself thinking about our dinner last night when the waiter asked if we were celebrating a Birthday because of the Rainbow colored ballon bouquet at our table, we all paused for a minute but then reacted with a "yes" you could say it's a celebration. We were right! It was a blessing to share time with you and to remember how special John was and still is!I consider myself fortunate to see God's love & faith through your family's strength (John 14:14).

Dear Everybody,
Hi! So sorry its been so long. We have been thinking about you guys, and were hoping to possibly meet you sometime in September or October in Santa Barbara. Can you let us know if any of those weekends work for you?
We have been busy! Emily started first grade, she does like it but misses kindergarten and only going half days! Jack runs around like crazy, he broke his arm a couple of days ago, and has to wear a splint for a month. Keeps him from climbing too much, but he hates it and tries to pull it off with his other hand, his mouth and even his feet!
We saw your pictures online, looks like you guys are as busy as ever! You have such a wonderful family, you always look like you are doing some fun stuff and having a nice time.
We celebrated John John's Birthday. (sounds like you guys did alot!) We had a special dinner and let a rainbow Happy Birthday Balloon go up to Heaven. Emily cried alot, but felt better when the balloon got up very high! Funny thing , the next day is a city 20 minutes away, I saw an identical balloon float across the freeway when I was driving. That was neat. Just wanted to say hi and let you know we are still thinking of you guys. Emily talks to john John alot in Heaven!
Love,
Carrie, Marty, Emily and Jack

It’s been a while since we last wrote, but we still look for your updates. What an awesome birthday celebration for John. Can you just imagine his first birthday in heaven? Sometimes here on earth as children we are in awe of how as parents we want everything to be happy and perfect for our children's special day. But in heaven it is all perfect and 100 times more joyous. So Happy Birthday John, may you be shining throwing rainbows down at us in your celebration.

What a great job you guys did again this year! The OC Register had a nice article with pictures of the kids working like crazy raising research dollars (over $8k???)in honor of John and Alex. Someday childhood cancer will be a distant but sad memory like polio is today. I'm not THAT old but I do remember kids getting polio and the fear parents had. Fast forward and no one gives it a thought. Hopefully someday Hayley, Luke, Cal and Lindsey can tell their children and grandchildren how things "used to be" when kids got cancer and how they were instrumental in raising funds for research. With God's grace and hard working people raising funds for research, that day is not too far away.
God bless you all and thank you for the lemonade and the chance to see your beautiful kids!
Love,

I love the pictures and how wonderful that you can still share these family moments knowing NHOJ is right there with you. Haley seems to be turning into a great advocate for her brothers legacy...she is such a grown up young lady. All the children are beautiful and growing so fast.
I am planning on stopping by your Alex's Lemonade Stand to honor John and enjoy some lemonade!!
God bless you all.

The kids all look great and they all seem to fit together. Haley looks like a wonderful Mommy's helper, the twins are really coming into their own, and Luke well, Luke looks like he is on top of things. God bless you all and know that I remember you and John in my prayers. I know he gave you a nice kiss and hug yesterday Tamara.

Your family looks beautiful. I can hardly believe how quickly the twins have grown -- one year old already! I laughed to think of them attacking their birthday cake with gusto.

You are right that we all need to learn a lesson about life from how John lived his. The bible teaches us that the future will have enough worries of its own. John, in his youthful but wise manner, knew to grasp joy where you find it. His optimism and joy which I learned of through your beautiful website will always remain in my heart. Good luck to you with the lemonade stand this year. I know it won't be easy to do it without John at your side. God bless you all

Thinking of your beautiful family. It's good to hear that you're finding new joys in life to balance out the sorrow you surely feel with John's absence. It was great to see Hayley and Luke looking so good with the Sprague kids at the St. Baldrick's event. I made a donation in John's honor, but I failed to get it under Kelly's name -- it just went generally to Fire House 89. Your continued support for pediatric cancers is another legacy to brave and spirited John. May God bless you all.

Hi Taggarts, Thanks for including us in the St. Baldricks event today, the kids and I had a fun time. I put some new pics of them up on Andrew's website.

Andrew enjoyed the shamrock riddle that Hayley told him; "what is a rock and green on St. Patricks Day"...(that is his version) He told it to several people and really thought it was clever!

I imagine it is hard to participate in events like this without John, his spirit was so evident...and I am sure he is proud of all of you for continuing to make a difference in the fight against childhood cancers.

Hugs to all of you,
love,
Kim

What a wonderful undate on the Taggarts family. John is such an inspiration to so many, and so are you, his family. I'm sure John is smiling down on you with pride as you continue to honor his life with fundraising for childhood cancer and neuroblastoma. I am not surprised at all with the ongoing support you are receiving from everyone in the LAFD family....I can tell you that their support will never end. I still get calls from fire friends of my husband 27 years later.
I think of John often when I have Andrew and Christine over for "all-nighters". I count my blessing and know all too well how things could very easily be different in just the blink of an eye. Thank you for the reminder.
I encourage everyone to give blood for the kids, and CHOC is the greatest donor center I've ever been to. I'm lagging behind you with only 7 donations, but I won't stop giving and coaxing others to join me.
God bless you all, and I can't wait for your next Alex's lemonade stand. I'm available if you need help with anything. God bless you all. Love,

My son Jamie, aged 5, had Neuroblastoma, diagnosed in 2003.
Unfortunately, he passed away last year, but we have started a Charity in his honour; http://www.daydreams.uk.com, and he still has a website at http://www.beebo.info

I would like to add your beautiful brave child to my growing collection of Neuroblastoma children and Angels, featured at http://www.beebo.info/warriors.htm with your permission.

Hi there.

I've never signed your guestbook before, but I read about your son on Andrew Sprague's site. I volunteer for the ACS and I am co-chairing the "Western Round Up" party this year. Happy New Year Taggart family. I realize you are starting 2006 with a deep hole in your hearts without your hero John, but you are starting this year with a special angel in heaven standing with our Lord Jesus to be with you, and guide you in spirit.
I think about you and your four angels here on earth daily and pray that their laughs, giggles, hugs and love sustain you with the grace of our Lord.
This is a small world as I spent the New Years weekend in Tahoe with family and friends for my son's wedding. It seems his best friend Ken R. is a fellow firefighter at station 15 with you Kelly. I haven't seen Ken since he was in high school with Michael.
God bless and keep you all.

Love you. May God hold you so close to His breast that you feel His heart beat for you. We never close a prayer without you in our hearts. I continue to be in awe at what an impact John had on my girls. They never forget to pray for "little John's family". The times when you stop, I pray for God's abundance of strength upon you. Dear Taggarts, I think about you often, and I remember you all in my prayers. I know this Season of Christmas, when our Lord was born unto the Virgin Mary will be hard for you. How glorious that your sweet Hero John will be with our Lord Jesus on His birthday. Dispite what we feel and believe in our hearts, only John knows the real meaning of Christmas...praise God, how wonderful that must be. Take care and know that I'm always here if you need anything. God bless you all. Love, Janice

Dear Tamera and Kelly, As we are just about to have our first baby we can't help but to say, "Thank you." As we have prayed for John and your family over the past three years we have also been blessed to learn so much about being godly parents. I remember leaving the OICU after John's cardiac arrest, with a pressing on my heart, "to watch and follow this Amazing Christian woman I have been blessed to meet." And over the past several years I have been watching and learning from afar. Phill and I left John's service with such a Conviction and Direction on how we want to raise our children. Thank you for the testimony you have all been to the Hong family. We are thinking about you all and praying for you this Christmas season. Much love, Phill, Mandy and Ruby or Duke Hong

I wanted to let you know that, like so many others, you are in my thoughts and prayers. For the past few years I have been forwarded your updates by Allison Dettore and was always blessed and amazed by what God was doing in your lives. What an honor for you to have such an amazing son. Although I did not know him, he touched my life in ways that you will never know. Your entire family is an incredible blessing and I thank you for sharing all that you have, it makes me desire the Lord even more every time I read about you all. May the Lord bless you as you continue to do His work! Betsy (Allison's old roomie)

Dear Tamara and Kelly,
I find it odd that as I list the sad things that happened in 2005 I find strength in the fact that I had the priviledge of praying for the John Kelly family. When I looked into both of your eyes at Pumpkin fest I saw peace. There was no anger. I am not sure that I will ever achieve the growth I saw through your eyes. Hopefully with God's guidance I will begin to understand the why. In the meantime I still say good morning to my little buddy John Kelly as I start my day at school and say goodnight to what is now an angel. I picture him zooming around heaven having all the slurpees he wants and eating as much spaghetti as he can. I never met John, but I will always miss him.

I want to add our voice to the many who have told how sad they are at the death of your dear little boy, John. I don't think there is anything more painful in life than to lose your child. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I so enjoyed walking past your house and watching John play outside, always willing to share with my grandson Evan. I saw your family in July at the park. John was so full of life and laughter, as I am sure he is now, jumping those heavenly clouds with all the other angels.
I admire your family, in your time of troubles, offering to take care of Evan when our daughter, Heather, was in the hospital. The Lord blessed John in this life with the greatest blessing of all, wonderful, giving parents.

Tamara, the other day at CBS I expressed to you about the song...'Come to the water'. I just sang it again to the girls before they went to bed and we, of course, thought of you and John. Your family and John will always be in our thoughts and prayers...forever. Here you go my sweet friend. If I was there, I would sing it to you...

'You said You'd come and share all my sorrows. You said you'd be here for all my tomorrows. I came so close to sending You away. But just like You promised, You came here to stay...I just had to pray. And Jesus said "come to the water, stand by my side. I know you are thirsty, you won't be denied. I felt every tear drop; when in darkness you cried. And I strove to remind you, that for those tears I died."' Love you.

Dear Taggart Family,
I am just checking in to look at John's pictures once again as I have in the many months prior. As I look at his precious face, I say a prayer to him up in Heaven, and feel relieved that he is no longer in pain and doesn't have to endure any more pokes and testing. However, my heart aches, and I must tell you that the pain that I feel is pretty unbearable, and I can't imagine your pain as you seek strength and guidance from God. This is too painful for any parent to go through, and I just can not accept this reverse cycle of life...death of a child before a parent. Through John, I will try to refresh my faith in my heart and put my life in to God's hands, but my mind doesn't want to accept this. I am so sorry, once again.

Dearest Nb family,

My little guy also was dx on 9/26/02, one month before his 2nd birthday. We too live in CA.

It is a painful road when you get to the point where you lay your child down before God and accept and have ultimate faith that he is in God's Hands. I too was there but my child was spared. Its difficult to understand why mine and not yours but I can only feel and believe that God has an ultimate purpose for John.

I am so thankfull for your faithfull heart. There is no doubt that John is pain-free, smiling down upon his family.

I cannot imagine your pain but I cry at just the thought of what 1/1,000,000 of it must feel like. May God protect and bless your family. May God hold you and your family in his precious hand.

With prayers and love,
