* * * Alexis Eleah Pellicane * * * July 1995 - September 2008
Welcome to Alexis Pellicane's Web Page. On 4/28/04 Theresa's stem cells flowed into Alexis giving her an additional 1,606 days of life. Theresa saved Alexis's life with a gift of her own special blood which matched Alexis's almost exactly. Alexis was diagnosed as having relapsed again, the second time after four and a half years, on May 23, 2008.
Alexis was originally diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)* in February 2003. Alexis received a bone marrow transplant on Apr. 28, 2004 at the City of Hope.
Blood donations are still being accepted at all San Diego Blood Bank locations. Use the code "AP05" to let them know it is a donation on behalf of Alexis Pellicane. For the most convenient location see their listing of addresses at "www.sandiegobloodbank.org. Also if anyone is up in the Pasedena/Duarte area of Los Angeles, blood donations can be made at the City of Hope in Alexis's name. Blood or platelets. Call (626) 301-8386 to make an appointment or by e-mail at "donateblood@coh.org".
We all (Alexis, Christine, Tony, and big sister Ashley) thank each and every one you for all your kindness, generosity, and support through these most challenging years of our lives.
We consider ourselves so very fortunate to be among you and are humbled and inspired by your support.
*For more About AML see the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Website link at the bottom of this page.
Journal
Friday, November 21, 2008 7:02 AM CST It has been two months and things are still impossibly intense at times. One might think that the feelings diminish through time but it is simply not the case. We thank everyone for their continuing support. The Fastest Runner event at Orange Glen Elementary was inspirational. The blood drive at the Wild Animal Park, also in honor of Alexis, continues to keep her spirit alive and well helping others. As we move forward through each day we share the following thought and are grateful for the time we have had together with Alexis.
"Let us be like a bird for a moment. Perched on a frail branch when he sings. Though he feels it bend, yet he sings his songs. Knowing that he has wings." - Victor Hugo
Best wishes to everyone for Thanksgiving and the holiday season to come.
