Rowan's Journey to Health and Healing

Welcome to our web page, designed to keep all those who love Rowan Grace and her family in the loop about her journey. Rowan was diagnosed on September 13, 2004 with acute lymphocytic leukemia and completed all chemotherapy after 28 months of treatment on January 2, 2007. Unfortunately we are currently battling relapse, diagnosed on September 10, 2008. We are facing bone marrow transplant after three 5 week courses of chemo are completed.

This website has been a tremendous gift to us and we thank you all for your support. The outpouring of love has truly held us up through these last 4 1/2 years and continues to light our darkest nights.

We want to share our daily mantra (thank you Richard) with you and invite you to join us in saying it:

The healing currents of light and love are moving around and through Rowan right now. Balance and harmony are being completely restored in body, mind and spirit. Surrounded in prayer, her walk on the path to wellness is steady and sure.

Thursday March 5th. Our new website is up and running! Please stop by and leave us a love note. NEW WEBSITE: www.caringbridge.org/visit/rowangrace

Hello everyone,

Rowan is recovering nicely, needing only one dose each of lortab and ibuprofen Sunday and Monday and only one dose today of ibuprofen. I think that she is getting accustomed to this new big tube hanging out of her chest and has actually been both the flusher and the flushee of her lines the last 3 days. She took a bath with it too, just was careful to keep the water below waist level. We'll have our incredible office nurse Tiffany do the first dressing change for us at our appointment on Thursday. All of the various and sundry tests, scans and labs came back within normal limits and she is getting her single small cavity filled tomorrow so she is all set for transplant.

We very sadly put Kat on the plane Sunday night and have missed that girl ever since. She is such a fun visitor. We have been working hard since Sunday to make by brother's RV all pretty and feeling like our home-away-from-home, pack for our fun week next week, and pack for transplant. It's a lot of packing!! We are also getting the house and yard ready for our extended absence. Tomorrow we take Sasha and Sabrina up to family (Auntie Lynn, Auntie Laura's sister, and her husband Uncle Jack) in Chino Valley, which will be their home-away-from-home. We will miss them so so so so so much. SIGH SNIFF SNIFF.

We have not heard another word about the donor. I'm assuming no news is good news (I hope). Kimberly, my understanding is that we will get to have contact with her a year post-transplant. We would dearly love to meet her and thank her in person for giving our cherished daughter the gift of life.

Shelby, please join us in Disney. We would so like to meet you and I'd adore getting to hold that new baby of yours. We should be there the afternoon of the 12th, Kat and hopefully Auntie Debbi will be joining us, then we'll go back to Duarte the evening of the 15th.

We have plans to get together with the Shores on Thursday late afternoon so Mike can help Ro unlock some of the Wii MarioKart levels and characters and so we can have some visiting time prior to our departure. They sounded good when I talked with them yesterday and today, although Spence is neutropenic and not feeling 100 percent.

Please keep my cousin Melissa's daughter Ana in your thoughts. She was diagnosed with a ruptured appendix and had emergency surgery early Monday morning. She is recovering nicely and should be able to go home by the weekend. But what a trauma for the Mommy!!!

Thanks for checking in on us. T-minus 4 days to departure and counting! Love, light and blessings,

Rowan Grace, Michele and Tina - LEUKEMIA WARRIORS! -

P.S. We ordered dog tags that say 'Go Team Rowan' on them with the orange ribbon for leukemia awareness. If you too would like one go to the shanrene.com website, select 'dog tags' in the left column then click on the orange one. They are only five dollars each and you can personalize them with another word. We ordered a variety: 'faith', 'courage', 'strength', 'trust' and 'laugh'.
