MJ's last year school picture

MJ was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic (or Lymphoblastic) Leukemia on 10-14-03, at the age of 17 months. She was the 12th case in cancer cluster in a small town called Sierra Vista. We were immediatley sent to UMC in Tucson were she began her chemotherapy. Her protocal called for 28 days of 4 different types of chemotherapy, and a very high dose of steroids. The next stage consists of 6 hospital stays three weeks apart where she was admited in the am for a spinal tape with chemo in her spinal fluid then received iv chemo for 24hrs then high doses of fluids to flush the chemo out of her system. Then for the next 24 months she receives oral chemo at home on a daily basis, as well as spinal taps every 12 weeks where she gets chemo placed directly in her spinal fluid as well as iv chemo and then begins a week of steroids.
MJ was so young when she was diagnosed she knows no different. She rarely complains about going to the doctor, she actually helps the nurse clean and prepare her sight for her bi-weekly blood draws. She considers UMC "her hospital." MJ is happy child that loves animals esp horses and bunnies. She is a great swimmer and is her older brother Kyle biggest fan.

MJ's banner was made with love by THE BIG BRAVE BANNER SITE.

Well its been a while since I have updated. I don't know if anyone even reads this anymore. We are all doing great. Kyles started a new school and is loving it. In fact he's been feeling kinda crumy this week but he still wanted to go to school:O) He told me he wants to try and not miss any days this year!
MJ is doing great. She is has been really going through a growing streak since she has been of treatment. Her doctor says that happens alot to kids when they get off treatment. If she keeps this up she will be as tall as brother in another few months. Its never fails to amaze me how fast they grow up. She still goes in monthly for her IV antiboitic and her counts. SO far so good. She gave us a good scare last month when her counts droped. It just turned out she had mono. WHEW!!!!
Kyle and MJ have been invited to do the fashion show for Tu Nidito again this year. So they will get to go down the cat walk again this weekend. MJ already told me shes not going to be shy this time. SHY??? I don't think that word exists in her vocabulary. She is one of the most outging kids I've know. She will stike up a conversation with a stranger in the grocery line and by the time we leave they know everything about her! She is quite the little yapper. I swear I feel there are days when she talks from when she wakes up until she asleep at night! I 've gotten in the habbit of just saying yeah.. ugh hugh... Half the time I don't know what she is talking about.

God Bless
Tiesha
