HALOS ABOVE HUNTER
Welcome to Hunter Kelley's Web Page. Hunter is an eight year old boy who lives in Birmingham, Alabama. Hunter was diagnosed in March of 2000 with a deadly, non-curable blood disease called Fanconi Anemia. Fanconi Anemia causes complete bone marrow failure and can lead to other cancers.
This site has been created to keep family and friends updated on Hunter's progress as he undergoes a bone marrow transplant to help save his life. Hunter is very fortunate to have a new baby brother who is a complete bone marrow match for him. The umbilical cord blood was collected at birth and will be given to Hunter during his transplant. The entire transplant procedure will last at least 100 days in Minneapolis followed by many days of recuperating at home while his new immune system becomes stronger.
We invite you to follow Hunter as he goes on his journey to fight this terrible disease.

All is going well with Hunter and the family. Hunter is almost three year post transplant and we have had no complications. Hunter participates in sports and has prefect attendance for school this year. That doesn't mean his grades are perfect!! We still struggle with some of the symptoms caused by FA and Chemo, or least we think they may be linked to FA and Chemo. Hunter is very small only about 52 pounds. He is the smallest one in his grade and we have already held him back one year. Not the best dental history. We are almost eleven and still have a number of baby teeth. Learning and staying focused is an issue. These things pale very small in comparison to what could have been. We could not ask for more on the way things have turned out. We have to be the most blessed family to ever walk the earth.
Cooper and the other boys are doing great. We stay very busy with sports and other activities. Christie started back teaching this year. I know Hunter and Parker love having her at school.
We have updated the photos and will try to do a better job updating the journal. Thanks to all who continue to keep up with us. Continue to pray for all the sick children that they may too win their battles with their sickness!!
