Welcome to Courtney's Site!!

MY STORY!!
Courtney's journey began in september of 2003. Courtney went to bed on a tuesday night everything normal to wake up on a Wednesday morning not being able to walk. I took her straight to the doctor for them to tell me she had a pulled muscle, they gave her muscle relaxants and pain medicine and sent us home. The next day she wasn't getting any better and now her shoulder was hurting and she could not lift her arm so My husband and I took her to the hospital. They diagnosed her with a UTI gave us medicine and sent us home. The next few days she was getting worse, now running fever, still can not walk at all and still can't lift her arm so off to the doctor's office once again. They drew blood, did x-rays and a full check-up to find nothing wrong??Later that night her fever was really high with medicine not bringing it down so off to yet another hospital. They too drew blood, ran x-rays. They told us she had a bad bacteria infection and sent us home yet again. Over the next week she was no better still running fever, not walking, not eating, sleeping alot and not lifting her arm we sit off to yet another hospital, this time I take her to our children's hospital. The ER doctor runs the usual test on her with still no answers. So he says to me and I quote"does she just not like going to school" needless to say I was beyond mad and frustrated so back home we go. The next day I take her to a friends peditrician office. He seen us, called a Ortho doctor and sent us back to a different hospital to see him. Finally Doctor Killian admitted Courtney into our Children's Hospital and started running test. Courtney laid in the hospital two weeks before they finally decided to do a biopsy of her leg. Through this whole process her blood counts were normal. When the results of her biopsy came back a few days later we were took into a little room and I remember Doctor Howard sliding a paper to me and at the top it read "When your child has cancer." My heart stopped, he told us Courtney had Luekemia but they were still unsure of what kind. Later that night they took us back into that little room and told us Courtney had Pre-B Cell ALL. So on October 2nd 2003 our journey began. Courtney went through 2 1/2 years of chemo, and we finished up April 7th 2006.Courtney was 9 years old at the time she was diagnosed. Courtney is now 16 years old. She has two sisters Rebecca is 22 and Brittany is 19. Courtney also has two brothers Brandon is 17 and Dalton is 18. Courtney also became an aunt for the first time August 28th 2007 to Rylee Ann Reid. Courtney is going to be a junior at Glencoe High School this fall. She just recently got her licenses. She has come along way and has endured more in her 16 years than most people go through in a lifetime. She is our Hero!!
