I'm slowly getting over my virus! yea! I went to back to school on Wednesday and was really weak and tired but thats school for me for awhile lately! We called my IRP team in Omaha and they said that was normal (for an sbs person with a virus)about the yucky labs but to call if the got any worse. I go for labs and a dr. appt to check on the labs from the other day and such Monday. Just a note before I go my application goes before the reveiw board of my top college this week or next, so please say a prayer I get in! hello to all,
I got nauseated yesterday at shcool and had to check out. Woke up this morning vomiting. The doctor at the staurday morning clinic, though it was a virus and ave me a med for nausea. Some of my labs were bad as well, so i'm sure I keep gettingthese viruses but hope fuly the will stop soon. The labs showed my platelets being very low as well as my bilirubin being high. The affects of the meds ae kicking in so i'm going to go lay down. thanks for checking in and please sign the guestbook when before you leave. thanks becky

Hey All
I have decided to update my website because I have met some new families who share my struggles and for some friends and family back home. I'm doing well I'm in Omaha receiving treatment and recovering from an operation. I'm so ready to go home. I miss Alabama so bad! I am feeling better and doing lots better! the only thing is my doctor said she got all of the problem adhesions out that she could, but couldn't promise that it wouldn't happen again, so that stinks. Please keep me in your prayers, and hopefully soon I'll be able to return home! love to all becky

they tookme off of3nights of tpn, and are seriously wantingus to consider the step procedure, in a couple of months if the upper GI is still showing the same or worse. they now say i have some liver damage, i go have a test done tuesday to see if it has gotten any worse please prayit does not get any worse. thanks.i probalywon't updatefor awhile b/c i'll be going to my cousin's wedding in a week so i'llbe gone for a while there soi'll update again soon. bye love to all becky

hey all
well i meant to update sonner but have been busy! i've been busy alot betterthan where i was thesame time last year! last year now that i think about it i was in the hospital for the 4th of July.this was whenn my short bowel syndrome showed its ugly side after like 2 years of it being under control it blew to peices and it took the dr.'s a year to find out what was going on, now i'm glad to say i don't have that GI doc any more and in the end of July i will have a new one! i'm proud to say that praise God that they are figuring out a road or path to take! i thnk God for all things and i pray that his will be done! love to all God bless becky

hello all
sorry it took so long to update. not much has been going on. just been busy babysitting. the only thing that realy bugs me now is that if i eat my stomach hurts and i feel like nauseous if i eat even a tiny bit of food! but i was researching about sbs and tpn affects, and found out thst the more you eat while on tpn the less likely your liver will be affected. But i don't to feel sick but i don't want liver damage either. so i'm confused about what to do. so if you can help please email me or sign my guestbook and tell me!(please sign my guest book any way i love to read the messages and it lifts me up to know all you care so much! thanks for signing if you already have and sign again if you want!)I also wish i could sweat this may sound weird but with my central line in i'm not allowed to sweat, and try to explain why i can't to an 9 yearold boy that's hard! hey all Happy father's day to all dads out there! sorry i hadn't updated in awhile but not much hasbeen going on health wise besides i ran a temp for like 2 days but that went away!:) That new med Zelnorm wasn't helping and causing more harm than good so i'm off of that that was a horrible medicine!:( On to other things i won 2nd place in my competition for 4-h Thursday! i get to go to state in the later part of the summer! yea!:) well thats about it probaly won't update till after my next dr. appt. unless something happens which i hope nothing like that happens! Hey all,
i went to clinic today, i was late b/c of a big wreck on the interstate that thank God we got throgh safely! They took the stitches out and said they didn't see any sign of infection! which is awsome! That new medicine they were trying to get they are not going to be able to get, so they are going tostart me on a medicine called Zelnorm to see if that helps. :) I'm still on tpn for 7 nights a week b/c of the fact that i can't eat and b/c of my blood sugar. I go back in i think 2 wks to see if the medicine is working then i then he said he will decrease the tpn to something like 4 nights a week instead of 7! And i get my new GI doc on the 13 July and i start the tpn/sbs clinic, then too! so that was my trip to B'ham! well thanks for checking and keep the prayers coming love ya all becky

hey all
Good news and bad news for my update tonight. my good news is that the children's miracle network of Alabama raised drum roll please $758,371 for the children's hospital in Alabama where i receive my care. well the next good news is i'm doing great! I go back the 13th to see my surgeon maybe he'll take these crazy stitches out. And on to the bad news i'm sorry to say but a friend i met on the web, she had sbs just like me infact we had almost identical stories. And what would you know her wonderful caring, courageous mother was from Dothan Alabama. well sorry to say she passed away this weekend,in a tragic car wreck (i believe it was Friday) she was turnig her life around and she was a great friend to me what little time i knew her. I can't say enough about her i wish i could meet her but i see lacy again in heaven where we'll both have new intestines. She would have been 17 next week.please pray for her family or even go to her site and drop aline or two of encouragement. the link is at the bottom of my page. Another sbs friend of mine charlie smith around a year ago (sometime during the summer unsure of exact time of death) he lost his fight at the tender age of 15, we grew up together in clinic. we went through the same things i remeber having my 4th b-day party at clinic with him there. we grew up with doctor Figueroa and Dr. Georgeson, we would come to clinic and show each other battle wounds and say things like "i got rid of my g-tube" or "i'm only on tpn for 5 nights" we would play and talk as long as they would let us. The doctors nurses evryone destined us to be together and be a couple when we got older. it was so sad to hear of him passing in February. Dr. Georgeson told us and all i wanted to do was go home and cry. we were so close, his grandmother was such an awsome lady. Unfortunately he never got to experince life witout tpn because he had it his entire life which is what kiled him due to liver disease. I love him so much! also to Crystal a girl with sbs as well she had a transplant and died after that. Jaquez died on his 16th b-day not long ago either. One thing that only a few of us sbs kids have is a whole family and loving parents some only have on but thats all they need, i'm grateful for mine! I thank God for them and hope they will someday be able to hold my baby in ther arms. i know this was a sad update but the people i mentioned are great soldiers in this long battle of life i will miss them all. I love them and i'm grateful for the ones in my own state that are still in the fight like Tiffany(from florida but goes to childrens in alabama),and swampna. Pray for these families and i thank you for doing so and spend time and tell your family you love them you never know when its your turn and remember God loves you! love to all! becky

i got pics up the other day! well this is not going to be along b/c i realy don't feel good just sorta tired and my stomach hurts a little. it stinks not to be able to eat at least a little bit without my stomach hurting oh well i'll just get to eat again till tommorow till it quits hurting and i'm able to eat just a little bt more. its amazing how much u can miss food when you can only eat a little each day. its not that i'm realy hungry b/c the tpn takes care of that but you know you miss actually eating. oh welli'll get used to it. well lots of love becky

hey all
guess what i'm home!!!!!! yeah! they said it is a line infection and i'm on antibiotics for it. i get to go back to school tommorow but i have to check in late for like till tuesday the 31 b/c i'm doing at home iv antibiotics twice aday. i'm feeling better and can't wait to get back to my daily routine. i'm going to explain something to some of you that may not know, when i say a "line infection" it means that iv thing in my chest has gotten infected some how. and because of where it is (right beside my heart and in a main vein) when it gets infected everyone goes crazy because my heart can pump it all ver my body and that it is not good! And for those of you who read my research paper you all know this but for those who hasn't a line infection is one of the main deaths for people with short bowel syndrome,(along with liver disease due to tpn). so for those of you who don't understand thats why i have to be monitored very closely now. if you have any questions u can email me. but just wanted to tell you all this because i know some of you don not understand. so now maybe you will. well thanks for all the prayers and i'm to have friends and family like u guys! ttyl bye love ya becky

guess where i'm at? well..... if u said hospital you are correct! well they did blood cultures on my central line thursday and foud something growing in my line, they are not sure what yet whetther it is a an infection or what. but there are treating as an infection until they know what it is. i don't realy feel bad just tired and weak. the antibiotic they are using are the strongest one they have but i'm allergic to it (we just found this out last night)so every time i get this med they have to dilute it and run it slowly, and theni still turn red and start icthing bad! so then they give me a bendadryl and i'm out for a couple hours. well all prayers are welcome, i hope its not an infection b/c if it is i may have to have a 2wk. hospital stay! well anyway thanks for all the prayers and i will update as soon as i can. love ya becky

i'm ok just not used to tpn yet. i had band day today so i'm tired out! i was able to go without sweating enough to have to change by bandage once! we did good it was hot but fun. well evrything is ok with me but it hard not to eat a whole alot i mean its not hard but hard to get used to not eating(a whole alot).well i'm tired so i'm going to go but i'll update again soon. bye becky

i'mm doing ok, i had some trouble wednesday night my tubing was messed up and caused blood to back flow. And my blood sugar feels like it is going to low in the mornings after i come off the tpn. i wasn't eating b/c i had to get unhooked and ready for school and b/c my stomach couldn't take anymore. but i'm going to try eating something small and maybe that will work. my central line is stilll draining around the site some but i don'tthink that is to bad they say that is supposed to be normal.well thanks for all the prayers and i will update again soon bye becky

hey all
things went well for awhile last night, until i started feelingawful and werealized the home health lady se the pump wrong. she set it fo 9 hours instead of 14. i eneded up being up til like 11 o'clock because it made my blood sugar go sky high! yeah i'm glad i'm not a diabetic, that was awful. my blood sugar was alittle low but not out of control this morning. i hook myself up again by my self tonight, then the home health nurse comes back and i change my dressing sunday afternoon then i hook up again Sunday then if all goes well i get to go home monday!There's a little bleeding from the site of my central line again but they said that would be normal. yea! i'm so ready to go home and go to church and sorry to say this but even school! I'm a little weak today and tired because of the blood sugar thing last night but ok and can't wait to get home! thanks for all the rayers and thoughts! love all becky

i'm doing ok, not much of any appetite,i'm gonna hook up myself up tonight, and all weekend. So if i all goeswell this weekend i get to go home Monday! my surgeon told me this summer that i can't do Upward Bound this summer or band camp, well darn! oh well i'm looking into a summer job! but he also said that if things with my bowel did not improve like motility and all he wanted to try the STEP procedure. i have another class at 11 today so i will update again when can. becky

me again! I'm doing better, still sore but my stomach dosn't hurt!!!!! yea i'm so excited about this after about 2 months it is gone! yea! they did some more teaching this morning and will come back tommorow to let me pratice and then friday night i do it all on me with the home health nurse there then we do it by ourselves all weekend, then we are hoping to get to go home by monday! I'm out of surgery and a little sore but ok. They started me on tpn last night and that is going well so far. i had a scare yesterday with my central line wanting to bleed but that stopped on its own. they are supposed to be coming today to teach us aagain so thats gonna be interresting.They did not put the line on my neck or any real place noticeabale so thats good,( they put it in my chest right on top of my left ribcage). well thanks forall your prayers and well wishes keep them coming. they say i may get to go home by the midle of next week. well thanks and i will update you all more later. becky

hello again! well i went to the surgeon Monday 4-25-05, he told me that i do have to go back on tpn, i go Tuesady may 3rd to get a central line put back in. i will be hospitalized for at least a week after wards to retrain my mom and to train me. He told me i had to go back on tpn he did not say for how long he said he is still going to look for that new med healso say my other options are (if the new med dosn't work),is to stay on tpn or to have a new procedure done called STEP, or to have a small bowel transplantation. so this is what i'm faced with in the future. I hope my body responds to tpn or or the new med when ever they get it in.(for those of you who don't know it is a illegal drug banned fromthe markets due to side affects) with the tpn i get a new tpn team and a new GI doctor which i'm proud to say, he just didn't know what to do and now i have someone who should. (tpn stands for total parental nutriton, it will basicly feed me through the central line which is like a durable iv but in my chest, it will feed me through my bloodstream so my intestine will not have to work since they don't want to any way). But that is going on with me and i will try to keep you all updated and i willl update again as soon as i got more news! Please keep me in your prayers! Thanks!

Having some trouble still with my intestine shutting down or trying to quit, I go to the dr. Monday to see what can be done. The only 2 options they have now (or so they say) is to try a new illegal medicine or to put me back on tpn.(total parental nutrition, i was on this untill age 9 but they thought i could live with out it. i also had a g-tube till the age of 14) come back later for more updates!
