***Ashton Elizabeth***

Thanks for visiting Ashton's website. Ashton has been off chemo since March 7,2003. Ashton was diagnosed with ALL(acute lymphocytic leukemia) on September 15, 2000 and WAS on chemo for 130 weeks(2 and 1/2 years). We thank God EVERY day for her life and for her little sister, Haley. She is an active, beautiful blondie with a zest for life! She was/is considered low risk due to her age, white count, and the fact that she had trisomy 4 and 10(?some kind of extra chromosome of the leukemia cell?)

You can read about some of our journey in journal history (above).

FOR TODAY--------(AUTHOR UNKNOWN)

To My Child...
Just for this morning, I am going to smile when I see your face and laugh when I feel like crying.
Just for this morning, I will let you wake up softly, all rumpled in your sheets and I will hold you until you are ready for the day.
Just for this morning, I will let you choose what you want to wear and smile at how perfect it is.Just for this morning, I am going to step over the laundry and pick you up and take you to the park and play. Just for this morning,I will leave the dishes in the sink and let you teach me how to put that puzzel of yours together.

Just for this afternoon, I will unplug the telephone and keep the computer off and sit with you in the back yard and blow bubbles.
Just for this afternoon, I will not yell once, not even a tiny grumble when you scream and whine for the Ice-cream Truck, and I will buy you one if he comes by.
Just for this afternoon, I won't worry about what you are going to be when you grow up, or second guess every decision I have made where you are concerned.
Just for this afternoon, I will let you help me bake cookies, and I won't stand over you trying to fix them.
Just for this afternoon, I will take you to McDonald's and buy us both a Happy Meal so you can have both toys.

Just for this evening, I will let you stay up late while we sit on the porch and count all the stars.
Just for this evening, I will snuggle besides you for hours, and miss my favorite T.V. show.
Just for this evening, when I run my fingers through your hair as you pray. I will simply be grateful that God has given me the greatest gift ever given. I will think about mothers who are searching for their missing children, the mothers who are visiting their children's graves instead of their bedrooms and mothers who are in the hospital rooms watching their children suffer senselessly, and scream inside that they can't handel it anymore, and when I kiss you goodnight, I will hold you a little tighter, a little longer. It is then I will thank God for you and ask him for nothing,

EXCEPT ONE MORE DAY!!

PLEASE KEEP HER AND ALL OTHER CANCER KIDS IN YOUR PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS. PRAY FOR HEALING AND SUPPORT RESEARCH AND FAMILIES GOING THROUGH THIS ORDEAL IN THIER LIVES.

Jesus truly lives in our hearts and in the air we breathe-so take him on in!!!

PTL!

September 2010

Whew!
We just passed the 10 year anniversary of Ashton's diagnosis.
We walked though it quietly and thankfully- that it is TEN whole years past! We were blessed with many emails, texts and FB posts about how she has come through and blessed and cancer free and how happy we all are that she has hit this milestone. wow.

Living in central Florida allows us a wonderful opportunity to volunteer at GKTW, where we went for her Make a Wish trip back in March of 2002.
Being a Christian, I struggle with the fact that we are supposed to quietly serve others, but I find it VERY hard to be quiet about serving THESE particular others and in the WAY we are able to serve them. It dawned on me last night at the Ice Cream Palace that EVERY single family that comes in there for some yummy ice cream and fudgy goodness has a PROFOUND story. It's like meeting a constant line up of celebrities to me(LOL), but they ARE God's celebrities, all on a journey that I pray makes thier love for Jesus stronger , or gets them on that path.
As a family, and I am so proud of this, we serve ice cream, shakes, sundaes and the very popular banana split, as well as coffee and soft drinks, to families who are gifted with a "pause" from thier struggle. My 10 and 12 year olds do it soooo well and never complain( one of those PROUD momma moments). It also dawned on me that Ashton's presence has been able to give hope to others whose children have cancer/leukemia. We don't talk about it there, but it's obvious we are a family serving there. The questions start and eventually one of us caves and tells them that we have been OVER THERE(on that side of the counter) not that long ago. Maybe one or two families ask each time we volunteer. They all say that they are going to come back and volunteer there after whatever journey they are on calms down a bit.

Selfishly, I, personally leave FILLED spiritually every month. I think my family does too.

I couldn't ask for more in my life right now.

If I sound spiritually filled, it's because we were there last night!

On October 14th, we celebrate 10 years in remission(not off chemo, in clinical remission). woohoo!!!

Love from one of the MOST rthankful mothers on this earth!
